Yes, you'll all hate the Kovy and Nash signings, but there are reasons:
- Nash - plays hard every night, is a great locker room presence and we'll need that for these younger guns
- Kovy - Russian connection (SKA), great locker presence, will make us competitive, and we are not committed to him long term
Trades:
Zucc - Unfortunately is not part of the rebuild. Nashville, with a gluttony of defenseman, would be willing to give up a first (late) and Fabbro (would increase our D depth)
Hayes + DeAngelo - With the NYR newfound center depth (Zbad, Spooner, Nemestnikov, Chytil, Andersson, Howden), Hayes doesn't fit into the future plans. While he is turning into a nice player, he'd be costly to re-sign. De'Angelo, with Pionk playing well, doesn't have a place either. Future defenseman include Hajek, Lindgren, Reykov and Fabbro, to go along with Skjei, Shatty, Pionk, Gilmour and unfortunately Staal. Trade with Detroit is assuming it is still Top 5 and Rangers is Num 11.
The first round pick from Detroit will probably go offense and could potentially slide right into the lineup. The latter first round picks will go to the farm to learn and improve. NYR would have to sign a depth 4th line center, wing and depth defenseman. If money is still available, look for Rangers to make short term play on a second pairing defeseman.
NSH wouldnt spend their 1st pick again. Also u add Fabbro... It is looks like 2 first picks and 3rd for 1 year Zuc(yes he is good, but NSH do not need that for that price).
Definite overpayment for Zuccarello, he is definitely a very solid winger but Fabbro has a Top 4 potential and even if it’s a 29th-31st overall pick for Nashville it can still be a fairly decent prospect, this just looks like the receipe for disaster for Nashville.
