Barely more than making now. Paying more so only 3 years. Might get 5 from a desperate team.

I think what this perdon was getting at is at his age most players plateau or reduce the cap hit.

Economics 101. Almost no D on market and cap rise. High demand, no supply means high price. Likely to get at least 6 per for 4 years so 7 over 3 plus another multi year contract after a decent trade off.

Why would Edmonton do that trade? Marner, Carrick, 2018 1st and 2018 3rd

We don't even need him so why trade for him in the first place. We have Matthews, Nylander, Kadri who are all but locked in to play centre next year

The Leafs already have 3 centres superior the the Nuge and they all currently make less. Sell him to someone else.

Green currently makes 6 and I'd be surprised if he got the same this year. Think 2 years and 9 or 10 mill is more than enough for him.

Nylander is a little overpaid and why clear bodies for 7th rounders?

Stick with the Oilers, this stuff probably makes sense for them but not in Leafland.

Edmonton has given up on him and will be giving him to the highest bidder this summer. Plus, I think I’m overpaying for rnh here. You’re proposal would be too much for draisaitl. No chance Marner goes for anything but a superstar RH Defenceman. Marner straight up for Karlsson (if sign and trade) for example.

No way is Nylander a guarantee at centre. Babs doesn’t seem to like him there. Obviously if they move him there they wouldn’t need rnh. But if not he’s a great replacement for Bozak.

I know he started off bumpy at centre but he actually has really played well the last few games and though what we gave up for him is not that much i still think with the depth they have at wing they will give him his shot.

1- who is the 3rd centre superior? Bozak is gone after this year.
2- see my supply and demand comment above. Would be happy to be wrong though.
3-I think Nylander is underpaid here. Might do 7x3yrs as a bridge deal. 7x7 would be a steal.
4-all those trades are to get rid of bad players that shouldn’t be playing on a good team. The 7th round return is just my version of “future considerations” I.e. a bag of pucks.

I’d be okay with him at centre, but if get RNH it’s not necessary and can keep him on a superstar line. Now if could just get a living breathing LW it’d be far and away best line in hockey.

Nylander is the 3rd centre.
I saw the supply and demand comment and if Green can get a raise, good for him, but it won't be from us. Besides, he is still mad about being left off the Olympic team years ago and doesn't like Babcock.
Pickard isn't a bad player on a good team, neither is Hainsey, although he is playing too high in the lineup. Edmonton should understand that depth at the goaltending position is a good thing considering your year is a waste because of its lack on your team.

Pickard isn’t who I was meaning, I included him in the RNH deal from a position of strength. 4 good tenders in system now. Hainsey Started the year great but fell off a cliff by Xmas. Easy upgrade.

He did indeed. Babcock's reliance on veterans impedes the progress of the youngsters.

Well I'm sorry, giving a past his prime defenceman 7 million and trading away youth for under achievers? That sounds like moves previous management would make.

That’s at least constructive. Have tons of cap space the next season or 2 so overpaying for a needed RD is acceptable. As for trading away youth? Timashov never making this team with the depth they have. Pickard maybe but he or Sparks are expendable. Pick one and trade the other. RNH May be an underachiever, but can’t blame anybody for how they perform on a terrible Oiler squad. Will never be a top line C, but a high quality 3 as a basement and high 2 likely. Overpaid a bit, but again, Toronto has lots of space, especially if cap keeps raising. And especially if get out of rookie bonus hell as this would do.

Bracco, Zaitsev, Rosen. Hopkins is no better than Bozak IMO. Could resign him for less without giving up anything. Just because they have cap room doesn't mean they have to spend (waste) it. Having Green and Marleau on the books when you have to sign Matthews and Marner leaves no room for improvement. IMO.

Unless move Nylander to C, which is no guarantee, there is no room for Bracco, who isn’t close to NHL yet anyway from what I’ve read. Rosen is LD and no room for him either. If want him have to ditch Borgman. Neither is RD 1 material anyway. As for Zaitzev, yes he’s young, but he’s terrible and way overpaid. So he’s basically a salary dump to a team that struggles to get ad signed long term so will take a mediocre player that coaches seem to like despite terrible advanced stats. As for RNH, I’ll argue he was very good once and has been killed by a terrible organization. Moving him likely gets improvement, and even if not he’s a great 3C. Bozak is also terrible. Shows spurts of good play, but in general has been bad.

Edit: PS I’m still convinced Marleau retires after the 18/19 season after his roster bonus is paid, but just goes on Robidas Island or is traded to a cap floor team with a pick and/or prospect as his salary is barely 1 million for the year. I’m convinced of that because the guys who actually know stuff (I.e. Bob Mackenzie et al) said that was the plan. Basically signed as a 2 year 20 million deal.
