this team is beyond screwed after next season. kucherov, point, gourde, mcdonaugh, miller, coburn, stralman, girard, all up for extensions now or this summer, then after next season, vasi and sergachev are up. This team has this season and next to win a cup after next season, this roster is goign to be blown to bits.

This guy gets it. Plus Palat needs to stay on IR for the rest of the season or they are screwed this season as well.

nah i think they got this season in the bag, but even this summer, they may have to downgrade because they barely have enough cap next year even with a cap increase, and they wont have near enough cap in 2 years right now. they do have players they can get rid of, and let girardi walk, but killorn won't get you much and you would not get much at all for callahan either. it will be interesting to see what this team does this summer because if they don't do much, all hell is going to break lose for this team next summer.

Does that not cost them an Overage next year if that's the case (Palat comes back off IR)? If so that CAP overage penalty next year fucks them even more! Or they then have to move one of the higher paid guys to the minors for relief. What about bonuses??? They're projected at paying out 2.1M in bonuses what happens then when that counts against next years CAP?

Don't get me wrong I think it's a great move for TB and I instantly figure them the favorites from the east if they weren't already but the implications down the road...

No they aren't, cap is accumulated daily and due to that fact TB had $9.2M in cap space today. Arizona has $76M cap space available right now. Look up teams cap space to see this on this site.. It's too bad there wasn't a feature for this when making armchair gm teams.

Think of it this way.. if you only spend $50M for 60 games of the season than you can spend like $125M for the rest of the season. Math is probably way off but you get the idea

I went and looked around, I stand by my earlier statement. There is no way that Palat comes off LTIR before the playoffs. Tampa has $4.13MM in cap space today, Palat is a $5.3MM cap hit. They will probably do the whole Chicago thing where Kane was hurt all the rest of the season until game 1 of the playoffs, then he was miraculously ready to play. During that time, Chicago went out and traded for something like $9MM in salary. Tampa is currently riding an overage on the cap as it is but LTIR is keeping them below the max on paper.

Look at the breakdown.. yes palat is injured but Tampa is getting no cap relief from it. They have almost $4M in cap space today with their additions and palat. It's obvious teams aren't cheating the system most fans just don't understand it because it's not our job too. The awesome thing is this site does it for you!

The cool part about this daily cap tracker I just found is it tells you when a player is giving cap relief through IR or when he is counting against the cap through th colour code. As you can see palat has been counting against the cap the entire season as he is dark green.
