Agreed. That is a brutal buyout, especially considering the length...

they save a lot of money every year pretty much other then the last couple where they lose not even a million per.

Except six years into his buyout you're essentially paying as much as his salary, and that buyout goes twice the length of the remaining contract (12 years, in this case.)
My point is, it would probably be easier to package him and move him.
