Trades with NSH, TB, LA, COL (maybe TOR)

Description
The Flyers should be sellers. They are a bubble team. At best, they make it into the playoffs and get smacked in first round by TB, maybe WSH. At worst, they miss the playoffs...

Simmonds to NSH. I saw this trade in a previous post and I am stealing it. I liked it then and I like it now. It's a high price, but Simmonds is a proven 30 goal scorer on a team friendly contract. Turris has cooled off considerably since his hot start after the trade...

Filppula to TB. Apparently TB needs a face-off player. The team is at 46.9% and he is at 53.3%. Like they really need much more at this point but still...

Manning to LAK. Really it is Manning to any playoff-bound team looking for depth on an expiring contract. A depth player for a mid-round pick...

Gudas to COL (maybe TOR). This is any team looking to add physicality and RHD shot for their run or otherwise thin on defense. Ideally you get a 2nd round pick, but maybe 3rd more realistic.

You're away that TB just traded Filppula to you a year ago? Doubt TB wants him back, let alone for that price.

Leafs will give you
Bozak (who you can flip for picks at the deadline)
Leivo (a good player stuck in a terrible situation)
1st 2019
2nd 2018
Carrick (who has an expiring deal but young enough that you can resign him)
Pickard

For

Gudas
Filppula
3rd

Yeah not very familiar with COL's defensemen situation but idea still stands. Hopefully a 2nd, but more likely a 3rd.

Yup aware TB traded Filppula to PHI a year ago, but if they have a face-off need, and Filppula fills that need, then they can do the trade on a pro-rated and expiring contract that fits under their cap. If necessary, PHI can retain some salary to get the picks.

Sold. Flipping Bozak for any picks would be bonus. Know nothing about Leivo, but cheap cap hit and should get a chance for a roster spot next season, if not this season. Know nothing about Carrick but is an RFA and if it doesn't work out then so be it since PHI has good d-men prospects. Pickard adds needed NHL experienced depth for when the goalies will get injured.

Filppula is barely over 50% this year and was at 47-48% last year. Really don't think TB would give up a 2nd and 3rd for 2% more Faceoff wins from a player. Matt Peca has recently taken over the 3C role and is at 62% so far, so this wont happen, sorry.

Didn't Flip just block a trade to Toronto last year before he was traded to Philly? I doubt he has changed his mind.

Filppula, compared to the rest of the team, was 7% better at face-offs than the team average at the time of the original post, and can still generate a bit of offense on a 3rd line. A veteran presence taking a face-off in an important situation might be valuable. I'm not familiar with Peca but if he can provide the same things, then so be it.

I wasn't aware that he blocked a trade to Toronto. That's unfortunate, but he might appreciate having essentially a locked in playoff spot in the Atlantic as opposed to a bubble team that may or may not make the playoffs.

Yeah he blocked it last year cause he didn't have a good relationship with Babcock.

Late getting back on this, but here goes. On the right side, the Avs have Erik Johnson and Tyson Barrie, and insert #6D of the day. Gudas could very well fit in the #6D slot....but they are not going to give up a early round pick to fill it. Maybe a 4th or 5th. And moving forward, they have Cale Makar, Conor Timmins (you may have heard of them, the two best D on the recent WJC champs), and Nic Meloche (another young kid that plays a very similar style to Gudas, but is much cheaper and less suspension prone).

They could use a bit of help on the left side though. Say those two picks for Sanheim?

Definitely heard of Cale Makar. Not so much with Timmins. If Meloche is ready to go this season or upcoming season then it wouldn't make much sense. I do not know if he is ready, since I only see his ELC started this season and d-men tend to need some development time.

Regarding Sanheim, despite some probable early mismanagement, he should be a top-4 fixture. I can't see trading a 2nd and 3rd for a former 1st with that type of potential that doesn't need a change of scenery. Maybe not the Avs, but some other team might look for that physical defenseman. At least I found out more about the Avs defense then when I first started.
