The idea here is that with the hiring of Ralph Kreuger, the bad decisions stopped. All dumb trades and signings have been reversed.
Also, given that the Oilers are terrible at drafting, I wanted to see if picking out of a hat would work better. So, for each draft pick (not counting the ones resulting from bad trades), I used a random number generator to choose either the player actually picked in that spot or one of the two who were chosen after him. This resulted in the Oilers getting such players as Tkachuk, Ristolainen, Dermott, Bjorkstrand and Wood, but missing out on Puljujärvi, Nurse and Yamamoto.
The overall result is a much better team. It's over the cap by a bit, but some of these contracts might have looked different, and a player would have been lost to Vegas in the expansion draft as well.
