Tavares plus

I would give up that package to get Tavares, but I'm not sure the logic is there. The habs need to convince Tavares to come to Montreal.. they don't need to convince the islanders to give them to him. Also if Tavares is going to Montreal why would he want to weaken that team by making the habs trade valuable prospects and picks for him? It just doesn't make any sense.

McCarron and De la rose both have to clear waivers next year, I would rather keep them than re-sign plekanec. Habs need to move on from plekanec, he is very overrated.

Statsny can probably get more than that, especially if he wants to go to Montreal.

The Shaw trade for Weise is pretty smart for cap savings.

Considering that montreal is in a bad tax position, being the only team who can offer an 8 years contract would give them an edge over sanjose/st-louis. If not, mtl will have to over pay of 750k/1.5 millions per to compensate the high taxation level in quebec... That is where the acquisition of the right become handy in order to keep a cheaper cap for signing tavares... Plus, the package offer is not that overwhelming since i am not that high on sherback and mcniven remains a long shot... As for stastny, the way the line-up is build, there would still be a way to increase our offer by buying out dale weise and replacong him by a cheap option like mccaron /or a similar ufa who fall without any deal at the end of free agency. I may be with you regarding pleckaneck but i just tought it would be cheaper to get an insurance now instead of spending draft picks at the trad deadline!

If you make that deal for Tavares you have to negotiate with him prior to the trade, I honestly don't think he would want to sign with this Canadiens team. Also to make that trade the islanders have to be absolutely positive that their is no chance that Tavares resigns, and if their trading Tavares I think they want more then Scherbak, McNiven, Schlemko
and a second. Yes these are some valuable prospects and a early pick but if their trading Tavares I think they want their moneys worth. I think that to get Tavares you need to trade at least a first or second line player or at the least multiple picks in the 1st and 2nd rounds. The Islanders are very near to being a playoffs contender, possibly cup contender so they want some valuable players that can provide something to the team that gives them success. I don't believe that the Canadiens or Islanders are rebuilding teams, but they are still a long ways from being cup contenders (especially the Canadeins). So I think the Tavares trade needs some tweaking here and their, and a lot of things have to happen for that trade to go through but otherwise this Canadiens team is suddenly scary.

You are quite right... This is an unlikely scenario but pretty much one of the only scenario where montreal could jump back as a contender. Mtl would likely offer more to the islanders, but cannot afford to send them a good player without hurting their chance of tavares wanting to sign with them... Maybe hudon or shaw (unlikely that the islander would want him) could be part of the deal and contribute immediatly... Maybe mtl if they know tavares would sign would switch the second for a protected 1 rounders in 2019/2020... I keep thinking bergvin and molson knows somthing we dont and really think they have a chance to land tavares which would explain why they so didnot eant to spend the 8 millions dollars they had to play with this year... Apparently weber, price and tavares are good friends... W'll see, if they dont land him, they should go in rebuild!
