Any Hawks fan that says managment would not do this take a look at the Ilya Mikheyev trade, almost the exact same and Kane is better. Also the notion that Kane is a locker room cancer is false.

A 1st round pick will certainly be accompanying Campbell wherever he goes.

I'm not all that convinced that Kane is a better player than Mikheyev-- The Athletic's player cards, for instance, view them as equally good. Kane's still a bit more expensive (I'm not sure why Vancouver retained $700,000 but they did), but I imagine the Hawks would insist on a 2nd round pick, even if without retention, over a 3rd with retention. The other factor is, they already made the Mikheyev trade. Even if the Kane trade made just as much sense as the Mikheyev trade, the Hawks might have bigger priorities than making both trades.

If Jake Walman is being traded as a dump for a second round pick, then a team that has 40 million in cap space and needs to hit the cap floor will probably take Campbell for the mentioned picks, maybe throw in a future 3rd.

Kane had 13 more goals and 13 more points, also hawks are looking to upgrade on their wing side, and a rebuilding team isn't attrative to players unless they overpay and overterm. I dont see why hawks would not roll the dice on kane, both Mikheyev and Kane come off the books at the same time so they can still upgrade after those two are gone.
