Description
With Leonard returning to BC, filling out the lineup becomes much harder. The Kuemper and Bear contracts make this that much harder as well. A Bear buyout would be very palatable as the cap hit would be minuscule through the end of the 25/26 season.

I see NAK leaving, he takes too many penalties for a guy playing 4th line minutes and he receives little to no PK usage.

I'd say HHA is a 50/50 of coming back. If they win the Calder again, I think he will go back to Sweden.

Frank has proven to be a Career AHL player at this point. I doubt he ever plays an NHL game in Washington.

Sutter's is 25/75 at being an NHLer at this point. The Caps need offense at every level of the lineup and Sutter brings very little in terms of Offense.

TvR and Jensen need to go as well. They're not bad defenders and could probably stay on the team, but the caps need more offense from the backends, desperately.

I like the Idea of Sam Reinhart for free through the UFA market rather than trading assets for Marner. However, I feel like a Marner Trade is much more feasible as the money out at Defense would help us be able to afford it under the cap more easily. And the caps could use Dowd or Lindgren (yikes) to trade into the latter part of the 1st round in 2024 anyway.

Jensen is a Skating Defense first Defenseman. An alternate option is TvR, who is very similar style-wise but a slightly worse skater. They're both invaluable on the PK.

Re: Reinhart - I think he's staying in FLA, so Marner is the best bet if he waives for DC and extends July 1st.

For Marner, I think it's gotta be a first rounder, a top prospect (Cristall likely, but if Suzdalev is good enough, great), a right-now RHD (Jensen or TVR), and probably a second rounder too. Pretty much what you have, but Dube and the third don't move the needle at all so just take them out. If Toronto asks for two firsts, pack it up and move on.

John Carlson or Sandin means that the leafs get back less in the trade though. Plus, Carlson is slow AF

I mean they might not have much choice when it comes to this trade. Marner is a UFA and likely leaves anyway, and Marner has the ultimate decision over where he goes, meaning that the return will be less because of that. I added Dube and a third because I just feel like having more prospects in the trade will make it more palatable to the GM and leafs fans, like the Guentzel trade where no top prospects were exchanged.

I would rather quality for Marner then quantity.
