Détails additionnels:
Why does this make sense?

The Islanders get a 1st and a top prospect expected to be in the NHL next year. This helps them next year so this isn't some trade just for the future. It's a deal that gives them immediate benefits and long-term benefits.

Toronto gets a 2C they need for two playoffs and with the prospect pool thin instead of just dumping futures for 30y olds they downgrade their futures to role players that still fit their needs but don't have the high end potential Minten and a 1st have.

Bad trade for the Islanders Nelson himself could get a better package Minten just isn’t that great of a prospect. With retainment he should fetch more not to mention adding Dufour and Bolduc doesn’t make sense at all

Minten is easily the best prospect in the Islanders system after this trade.

He was team Canada's captain at the world juniors. Before him in that role in order: Wright, McTavish, Byram, Cozens, Dach.

If he's 80% as good as any of those guys he is better than any prospects anyone would offer for Nelson 1 for 1.

Minten was also one of if not the worst team Canada captain. You’re absolutely insane if you think he is even close to Nelson’s value. An elite 2nd line center 75 point 30 goal player fetches a way higher price than a point per game WHL player and a 1st.

I see where you are coming from but Nelson is 32. Nobody is paying that price. Not a knock on him but he's only passed 50 5v5 points once in his career so unless a team needs a PP1 guy (which no current contenders do) then he's a 40-45 point player for whoever is acquiring him. He's 47% on the draws so he's not going to be valued highly as a C.

For reference Max Domi has 3 5v5 points less than Nelson, 2% better on the draws and has played more than 240 minutes less than Nelson.

He crushes Nelson in every /60 5v5 offensive and defensive stat.

Would you pay a 1st and top prospect for Domi? Cause analytically he's a significantly better player.

Have you seen the Isles' system? "Best prospect in the system" is a very low bar to clear.
