Maybe VGK wants to sell high on Wild Bill and free up some money to re-sign Stephenson. They get back a young 3C in Sillinger who still has some promise to maybe be a 2C, a good depth defenseman in Bean, and a flyer on a goal scorer who has found consistency in every league but the NHL.

ARZ still needs a good young RHD. Dumba and Stetcher are stopgaps and not good ones. Dumba is the same thing in Columbus, filling in for Severson while he’s out and possibly being a TDL sell with retention. Taking him back allows CBJ to dump Gudbranson’s deal to Arizona, who could use him as a good veteran bridge in their young locker room.

CGY reshapes their roster to get more top-end talent since they refuse to rebuild. They also get a cheaper, rugged 3rd pair dman to replace Z.

In summary, Columbus moves out their most maligned players, Laine, Gudbranson, and Peeke, sacrificing one of their promising young centers and a decent pending RFA dman. In return they add a fan favorite fills the top-6 center need, a rugged winger who helps the forecheck, and a giant mean Russian who makes them harder to ply against. We will have to deal with Dumba for at least half a season, but he’ll be a valuable warm body on the blue line that will allow Jiricek to keep reveling on the second pair for this season.
