Description

Islanders need to try to compete without spending picks. If we can sign Pacioretty for a relatively cheap contract and let him heal properly, he could be a good mid-season addition.

The moves made are simple, but should let us compete for a playoff spot. Next off-season is the big year as Sorokin is a UFA, but Bailey, Martin and Clutterbuck will all be expiring making room for his raise.

Bailey is as good as gone whether being traded or buried in the AHL would changes their cap room. Most likely targeting Tarasenko, or retaining Engvall.

I agree, no more trading draft capital. But this lineup is at best 10th in the Eastern conference next year.
