Time to get YOUNGER. Let's not trade guys in their mid-20's (Sutter) for guys in their mid 30's (Vrbata). Let's not sign guys that haven't played more than 50 games in since 2010 (Eaves). Let's not sign lead-foot wingers, when this team readily admitted to needing speed on the wings.
Every forward on this team (except Crosby/Malkin) can play either both wings, or wing and center. Any of the bottom 6 wingers would not look out of place taking a few shifts in the top 6, or being moved up into the top 6 due to injury. This still leaves Kapanen available for call-up at some point, and almost 2.5M in cap space to acquire defense at the deadline if needed, or save space for raises for Maata and Perron next year. Frolik and Soderberg prices are very fair. Frolik shouldn't be getting 5M plus for 40 point seasons. Same with Soderberg....he shouldn't be getting 4M or more after 1 season in the NHL and 44 points. They both deserve raises, but not 5M plus and 4M plus numbers that have been thrown around.
