Signings:
- Tkachuk: Calgary elected for arbitration, not Tkachuk, which gives me hope he’d take Gaudreau-like money and not Marner/Matthews-like money in order to keep the team competitive.
- Milano signs 2x2, taking a discount for his childhood team yet still a pay increase from his last contract.
- If Dobson signs long term (like I hope) I can’t see Lou signing him for more than Pulock (6.125) considering he’s only had one good year and doesn’t even play PK. Most likely however, he’s bridged for around 4.5x3.
- Bellows: hasn’t proven much at the NHL level, and signs for 100k more than he made last year with an extra year of term as well
- Romanov: a 2 or 3 year deal at around 2 mil seems to be the consensus on him, as he hasn’t proven much offensively at this point in his career.
- Sprong signs for league min after not being qualified, he’s a young goal scorer with upside and I wouldn’t mind the islanders taking a shot on someone like him or Jon Dahlen on a one year prove it deal. If Dobson does sign a bridge, use the extra money to sign a third line player like Rodrigues, Heinen, or Kessel to relegate Bellows back to depth.
Two top 6 players with upside plus a first and second is much more than the DeBrincat and Fiala trades, albeit Tkachuk is arguably better than both players (Debrincat is close but the consensus is that Chicago got robbed)
Anaheim needs to get tougher to protect Zegras and their young stars after the Beagle incident, chose to send Martin over Johnston bc I don’t know if Anaheim is interested in Johnston’s deal with 4 years left
Rumor was the cost for Philly to dump JVR was a 1st.
JVR: Salary of 5 million this year
Bailey: 3.5 across 2 years (2 million more)
Bailey had a higher PPG last year.
Instead of a first, Arizona gets a former 1st rounder in Holmstrom plus a 2nd
