Description
Thinking Samsonov trade could happen if they sign Fleury (would he dare go to a Pens rival? Or another tandem goalie this summer).

Could actually resign Kane in this scenario, and Foegele could still be moved to create more space if needed elsewhere if things don't pan out (sign a cheaper replacement like Johan Larsson perhaps).

Finding it hard to gauge Samsonov's value and performance. Would a direct swap with Pulju even be accepted in your view? How regressed was Samsonov's year? Perhaps I am overly optimistic thinking he can be a 50-55 game starter right away...don't watch enough Easter conference to know.

Not who you asked but Samsonov has high potential and flashes excellence at times. He is just very streaky and not always dependable.

I feel like he's one of those guys who is still learning how to be a pro and give his full effort on and off the ice to be his best. If he does that, he can be a top 5-10 goalie in the league.

I also would not want to trust Samsonov with full time starting duty yet, an ideal situation for him would be with a dependable veteran to play 30-40 of the games and teach Sammy how to be a pro.

I think the caps will trade VV as he is cheaper and had better numbers. Sammy seems like the guy you trade then in 5 years he's an all-star and you're full of regret.

His value is hard to gauge, I think it really depends on whether the caps have given up on him yet, if they have then I think they would absolutely trade him for Pulju straight up

Thanks for all the interesting info from a Caps fan perspective. I guess it would be a high risk/reward on the Oilers side to plan for him to be the starter too, but the reward potential is high and might be hard to find for as cheap anywhere else this summer. Vanecek would be a decent enough option too though. Hope Holland makes calls on both, could be a trade there.
