First of all I dont think they should trade that pick for immediate help.
I get the preassure on Fitzgerald is rising but with the right choice here
you can really solidify this teams future going forward.
This season was insufferable and at least we got something good out of it.
As for the pick I dont think you can go wrong with the likes of Cooley, Slavkovsky, Nemec, Jiricek and even Kemell.
But personally I like the Idea of a future #1 Pair of Luke Hughes and Simon Nemec the most.
Getting heavier skill up front is most likely gonna be the main objective come Free Agency.
Guys like Nichushkin, Burakovsky, Marchment or Copp should become available in Free Agency
and the Devils got the Cap Space to be in the market for these guys.
Also an objective in Free Agency should be getting another bottom pair defenseman, just in case
that our younger prospect defenders are not working out next year as planned.
The callups this year especially on defense this year all showed promise and hopefully we
get a good handfull of Nhlers out of the likes of Bahl, Okhotyuk, Walsh and even Vukojevic.
Hardest part is going to be finding a goalie who can actually improve this team and if they do it via
Free Agency aswell Id expect its between Husso and Campell if they can land them.
Also would like to see them resign Zacha.
I get it his not who everyone hoped he would be but still hes a decent Nhler who can play
center and wing, he fits the age bracket and wont cost a lot to resign. (hopefully for him)
I know this one is not very exciting but I dont think that the available wingers like Fiala, Gaudreau or Forsberg and maybe Meier should be the targets for this team.
Barring Jesper Bratt continuing to improve the way he has any of the above mentioned would easily be the best wingers on next years NJD but Gaudreau and Fiala would be very similiar in playstyle to the forwards we already have.
Forwards in the mold of the Tkachucks or the Svechnikovs would greatly benefit this team but those
players just dont seem to become available ever so I guess you have to draft them.
(Which might be the case for Slafkovsky after all....)
