Description
Not too sure if the value is there for the contracts/trades, but I think they are close:

I am pretty done with Sammy. I really have tried to be patient: he has so much potential, makes spectacular saves, etc -> but he is just so inconsistent. Frustrating because he can make the amazing save, but can't stop a straight-on, blueline shot. A change of scenery will really do him well.

Saw mixed reports on Husso's next contract, but a 2-3 year deal worth $4 - $5 mil sounds accurate

Improvement made on the blueline with Kulak. Could also be Murray (COL) for a slightly cheaper 3rd line LHD. Not sure how Alexeyev is developing, but have heard that he is not coming along as fast as the Caps hoped. Johansen is having a great year, so he could be an option as well. Just think we need a shutdown bottom 6 dman with suspect goaltending.

I think an improvement on the forward front is needed. Not sure if Vatrano is that improvement, but the Caps need to bring in a ~20(+) goal scorer who can lighten the load off of Ovi, Kuzy, Oshie, etc. I know a lot of Caps fans will say "we have so many young guys that need to play". This is a valid point. But I just don't see Snively, Protas, Leason, AJF being that bottom 9 "depth" scorer that the Caps need. Preferably this player would sit on the 3rd line when team is healthy, but could easily move up to 2nd line if needed.

Big problem here: this scenario leaves some big question marks for next offseason

This is very solid imo, similar to some things I had as well. I'm so torn on which goalie to keep but one of them is gone 100%. Like you, I also want to sign Husso to a deal. I had him getting a 5x5 given the really competitive goalie market this summer.

Eller I think is gone for McMichael to be the 3C. Idk what Hagelin's status is but Larsson has slotted in so well (and would be cheaper) that I think he is a valid option to bring back if we can trade Hagelin. AJF can also fit in there.

I think Protas, while maybe not a 20 goal scorer, could fit on that 3rd line. He was really impressive in his time here and could be a surprise. Vatrano would be good there too.

Rather than Kulak, I had the Caps getting Lybushkin. He's done really well so far in Toronto and reminds me of Jensen where he's a very good defensive defenseman but can create some offense if given chances. Jensen has had a fantastic year and could see Lybushkin having similar success to that. I also had Alexeyev as our 7D

Seems like we are in similar thought process then. Kulak, Murray (COL), Lybushkin, etc -> we need a defensive dman (LHD) to come in and provide a shutdown aspect. I couldn't agree more with you about Jensen; he has been really solid all around. Also agree with you on Protas - I think he could easily slot in to the 4th / 3rd line. Thanks for the feedback!
