that being said 1 year rental retained and dumping scandella for that cheap is worth it imo
i know at least one blues fan will hate this bit if this is the best we can do at the deadline anything is better than scandella and we save money for the offseason

Yep, Leddy just isn't working out in Detroit, and Scandella isn't working out with the Blues, but I believe in Scandella as a future 2nd/3rd pairing anchor for the Wings more than I do Leddy so it feels like a swap is beneficial. I know Leddy isn't what the Blues need but like you said anything would be better than keeping Scandella for them at this point. I considered making the offer with the 2023 2nd but I feel like the 2022 3rd makes it easier for the Blues to say yes. I honestly believe Leddy could bounce back a bit with the Blues but the main point here is really the cap dump return.
