yeah he could bet on himself, but guys take those huge money deals with term while they are young because of the security. If he injures his hip again or tears his ACL again then the Flyers could low ball him just like every other team in the NHL could as a UFA in two/three years. If he takes a Klingberg type deal he has the $ security for 5/6 years and is still able to hit UFA as a 29/30 year-old for one more decent sized contract at maximum value for a player like him ($6M). Flyers could sign him to a bridge deal, but if that's how he goes in negotiations then I imagine he becomes instant trade bait if any of the prospects pan out. The Flyers aren't going to pay him $5M+ to be the #4/5 defender on the team so it's a risk for him still.
