This is the take on the Islander's trade deadline options from the website everythingisles.com By Joe Bilello. Keep in mind these trades are just a few options according to me so other players can be traded for and/or used as an asset. The Islanders are buying in this deadline and I traded for players that can establish a core alongside John Tavares and go on a cup run in the near future. I noticed teams that win the cup have a core group of players that were drafted relatively close together ex: Malkin, Letang, Crosby, Kessel, Fleury; Kane, Toews, Kane, Keith, Crawford; Kopitar, Carter, Quick. The islanders have John Tavares, maybe Josh Bailey and Anders Lee are core players but they arent quite elite. There is a big gap between good players around Tavares' age and good players in the future. For example past Ryan strome (2011) there aren't real core players until the 2014 draft class like Dal Cole (2014) Ho Sang(2014) and Barzal (2015) are future elite/ core players. To me it would make sense to trade future core players for current core players. Don't be alarmed by the cap hit it will work itself out. I also created a "player" but really that player represents Pulock/ Hamonic.
