This 20 team roster gives the Canucks ~$6M in cap space to potentially pick up a gem or two from the waiver wire, or fleece someone in a trade to alleviate their cap issues.
The Canucks simply don't have the cap room to go big this offseason, nor are they close to winning a cup. I don't like the idea of trading away our draft picks (our prospects aren't strong right now) to pick up someone that would help us be more competitive, as it still won't make us a cup contender yet.
- Sign a defensively responsible centre for the 3rd line - D. Ryan
- Sign a defensively responsible RD to fill a gap - J. Hakanpaa
- Re-sign Edler and Hamonic to team friendly deals.
- Sign Hughes and Pettersson to bridge deals until Eriksson, Luongo, Beagle & Roussel free up room.
This gives the kids an additional year to mature, and lets the Canucks take a run at a big name next year while dealing with Boeser.
