It would make a lot of sense for the very short term, but what do you do next summer when Fox, Kakko, and Kravtsov need new deals? If I’m Vancouver, I give it right back to you next summer by offering Fox 10m x 5y and Kakko 4m x 5y. Even if they want to stay in New York, they know that’s more money than they’ll get without an offer sheet and it completely screws over the Rangers.

Then Lafreniere the next summer… woof.
