There's a good chance Barrie would sign that deal if it's for 8 years. I think it makes more sense to let him test the market first. There's a chance they could sign him for something like 7.5 for 5 years, since he'll be 29, and the league is trending towards not paying UFAs huge amounts once they get to age 35 and older.
Ideally the younger blue liners will be playing well when they're entering their mid 20's, and theyll want money to be allocated towards to those players.
