Now to start, I don't think this will happen. but if we are thinking about paying a 28 year old Duchene 9-10 million over a number of years why would we not offer sheet Aho. Much younger and better option in my opinion. Carolina has the cap space to match this but would they? Rumor has it they want to sign him in the 6-7 Mil range.

If you get Aho, then we move a couple older assets and a couple younger prospects that don't seem to have a place in our roster now or in the future and get some draft picks back that we will lose in the offer sheet. The draft picks are just a guess as well as the teams, but both Byron and Danault will draw significant interest.

Sekera could be a good stop gap solution without over paying for Gardner. Allows Mete another year to see if he can be a top 4 guy. Also gives time for Romanov to get over from Russia.

Totally agree! The only smart way to get Duchene would be for 8m or less per year... If he really wanna come to MTL, he might accept a deal close to that. If not, why not spending this money on a RFA (younger) even if it means giving away a couple of first/seconds. I'm not a fan of trading Danault, this guy is now part of the core and still really valuable even with the potential income of Duchene or Aho. Duchene can play on the wing if Poehling makes the team. Then you have KK, Danault, Poehling at C and amazing RW and LW. A C playing on the W doesn't mean he can't take face-off or play C for some shifts.... It's always great to have 2 C on the same line (one RHD and LHD) in order to draw specific face-off or whatever. Also, we really need a solid and young LHD. Nurse for Tatar, Lehkonen and Juulsen should do it. Maybe offersheet Provorov if they have trouble signing him in Philly... Many options for MB
