Frolik is worth more than a 3rd. Not sure why he's constantly being given away.

He's not being given away, 3rd or 4th rounders is just his value right now. You get back a mid round selection and valuable cap space, that's decent return. He's a veteran, on an expiring contract, with most teams seeing it as a cap dump, but still provide excpetional value for aspiring contenders like NJD or FLA

Frolik would fetch a lot at the TDL but the Flames wont wait that long as they need the cap space to make upgrades. Frolik is still good enough to get assets back for the Flames, unlike Marleau. Marleau was given away, Frolik trade would be a retool

Frolik is an interesting trade target because he only has one year left on his contract. It looks like he’d pretty much be a season-long rental, but that’s not the worst thing for a bottom-six forward. His cap hit of $4.3 million is more than manageable for the Devils, especially if he can produce close to 40 points.

I don’t think it’d cost much to acquire him, especially if the Flames are just looking to shed salary to make moves, like re-signing Matthew Tkachuk. A mid-round draft pick or a B-level prospect would likely get the job done.

My reasoning is Frolik with a pick acquired Zucker at the deadline but the paperwork fell through. A player like him at the deadline fetches a 2nd rd pick plus. Frolik is a B list acquisition target, I agree there, but even guys like Stempniak were worth a 3rd rounder as a part season rental, and he was a fraction of the player Frolik is.

Total agree, unfortunately, Calgary is not dealing from a position of strength. They need cap space and all other teams know it. Drives the price for decent players down.
