The previous seasons bonus overages are already included in CapFriendly's calculations so there is no need to add them in as a created player on the roster like I have seen so many others unnecessarily do. This scenario puts the Hawks right up to the cap, assuming the cap does not go up next season which is what the rumor mill is leaning toward. Obviously the second line is a proven recipe from last season. I am also confident the 4th line would be ideal based on Rasmussen's size, Hinostroza's speed and scoring ability (he led the icehogs in scoring last year) and Hartman's grittiness and energy. Otherwise there is a serious hole at left wing on the top line and third line. I view Shaw as a exceptional depth player with upside on the power play which makes him worth more than 3 million per year. However his skill set is inadequate for the top 6 and it's not fair to Shaw to be asked to play top line minutes with his hard-nosed style. Coach Q will figure it out. Generally speaking I do not see the rookies with no AHL experience making the NHL roster for opening night. I do expect another season of a consistent NHL/AHL rotation in the bottom 6 and 6th defenseman. Hopefully by the all-star break someone distinguishes themselves or Stan will be making more trade deadline deals. I have Hossa on the third line, which is an ideal spot for him based on how last season ended and the success other teams have had with a skilled veteran on the third line such as Marleau, or Kessel. I wouldn't be surprised if he remains paired with Toews. Hopefully a longer off season recharges Hossa's batteries.
