Description
We are going to lose Holtby after next year. Make a move now, Rittich is a stopgap till Samsonov is ready (hopefully by the Playoffs). Trade gets us a gritty team first player in Bennet, draft pick and cap room to resign Backstrom next year. Burakovsky trade nets a rising star two way center and draft pick. Priskie rights improves a pick. Acciari and Pirri UFA signings add grit, PK ability and goal scoring ability to bottom line. Overall the Caps gamble Holtby can be replaced to get younger, tougher, better team D and create cap space for a deadline deal or Backy resigning. Flames get a former Vezina and Cup winner. Devils get another goal scorer for top 6. Carolina gets a leg up to sign a real talented D man on the cheap. Caps now have 2 solid scoring lines, a third line to match up against any scoring line and a versatile group of 4th line players.

It seemed fair. NJ now loaded at Center, needs wings with potential and you got 3 third round picks. Caps get potential 2nd or 3rd line center and something for an enigma. What say the Calgary fans on the Holtby trade?

Canes will trade for Priskie but you aren’t getting the Rangers pick. That’s the pick that is Conditional and likely will become a 2nd.

Rittich is a decent goalie whose save percentage and goals against were slightly better than Holtby. Bennett is a decent 3rd liner who is more consistent in both ends than Bura. I don't mind this trade myself. Use Rittich and see if Samsanov can see some time in Washington this year.
