Isles bring back all four of their big UFAs, and upgrade the forward group while still maintaining cap flexibility for pending RFAs Barzal, Pulock and Toews after the 2019-20 season. Under this scenario Isles would have about $20MM in cap space going into the 2020-21 season to re-sign those guys, plus at that point Eriksson and Clutterbuck will be easier to buy out/dump on cap floor teams.
Dal Colle, Ho-Sang and Koivula provide cheap depth.
On defense Leddy is moved to add depth at center. Hickey gets the first crack at his spot, with Aho pushing for that spot as well.
Bad contract swap. Ladd waives his NTC to go home to BC. Eriksson waives his since he's reportedly unhappy in Vancouver playing for Travis Green. Maybe the Isles throw in an extra late round pick or low level prospect since Ladd has an extra year of term.
Doesn't necessarily have to be Ottawa, but any rebuilding team that will take on Uncle Leo's contract and a draft pick in exchange for essentially nothing.
Winnipeg is reportedly looking to move some salary, and may make Ehlers available. If that's true, the isles should jump at the chance to add a speedy scoring winger to pair with Barzal.
Skinner last year got traded for a mid level prospect plus 2nd, 3rd and 6th rounders. Since Ehlers isn't just a one year rental, Isles would have to give up more, but probably less than we'd expect since not a lot of teams have the cap flexibility to take on a $6MM salary without sending much money back the other way.
