Not a fan of this move from a Blues perspective. Blues have a young effective puck mover in Perunovich who could fill into that role. If the Blues were to target a young left handed defenseman on an ELC, I'd rather go for Hague.
On top of that, while the 2020 1st round is enticing from a Blues perspective, NJ wont give it up especially if they're trading Hall and getting a bottom 10 first in the draft

Canes pass, not good enough upside to trade a really good young defenseman on a good contract.

The thing that scares me about Perunovich is the fact he's tiny. Tiny guys rarely do well come playoff time. Ty Smith pretty much fits the definition of what you stated (he just needs his first ELC). I'd take Hague in a heartbeat, but I'm not sure Vegas will let him go at this point. I'd love to have Hague on the left side and Phillipe Meyers on the right side. Talk about two slabs of beef protecting the goalie!

I get your pick statement, but I look at it as Tolvanen looking like a top ten pick already. Bonino gives them toughness, some scoring, and flexibility on the bottom six along with playoff experience. I think both he and Edmunson are exactly what the Devils lack.

Grzelyck, Krug, Marchand are a few tiny guys who do well. Schwartz isn't huge and has done well. Besides, Ty Smith is only 5'11 and 175. He's not that much bigger than Perunovich.
As far as Tolvanen goes, he looks good, not good enough to justify possibly missing out on a couple of the big name guys next year. Devils do need an Edmundson type.
