We will see if the Avs are still in the hunt in the next few games, but it's not looking good. Might as well get what you can from your UFAs. Varlamov's value has dropped this season but is still capable of being a starter. I looked for playoff teams that have sub-par backups as a good fit for Varly. St. Louis or Vegas could be good fits as well. Avs can afford to retain salary to make a deal work.

I'm fantasizing about the Avs winning the draft lottery TWICE and getting Hughes and Kakko. That would be amazing!

Because Niemi is the back up and his numbers are ?. If a team is trading for Varlamov, they're not bringing him in to be the starter. It's more for insurance for the playoffs. Remember when the kings traded for bishop a few years ago? They had 2 #1 goalies going into the playoffs. Maybe not MTL but some teams would be interested in that... Hopefully lol
