Probably Bad Eichel Trade
That's mostly what I've said. I just started thinking along the lines of this trade in an exercise of contemplating my navel. Honestly though, if Buffalo agreed to this deal, I think Detroit would be insane not to consider it. Not to necessarily say yes. But at least think about it.

I based this on the O'Reilly trade and upgraded a bit. I think I'd eventually have to upgrade Pearson to either Veleno or Rasmussen. I'm really bad at trades though, so this may not make any sense at all.

Lighter than I thought it would be, but COVID has done that to contracts. I'm surprised at the length with the lighter amount though. If he has a healthy year, he may prove that he is worth more than this.

Ok. But it is showing him as an RFA afterwards? Since he wasn't qualified, wouldn't he be a UFA? And did I miss that there was a period of time in between not being qualified and still being property of a team where you can sign before free agency starts?
I also see Hirose's contract hasn't been updated. It looks like he went through the same thing.

What Would Detroit Have to Give NYR
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aedoran</b></div><div>He is/was a great goalie and yeah I take him in Detroit. If he doesn't retire this off season he will when his contract is up. I just think is very disrespectful to trade him to a rebuilding before his final season. Seriously Hank was the face of the Rangers since he joined them in the 2005-06 season. Yzerman is big on character and Andersson's temper tantrum at the WJCs when he threw his silver medal into the stands and then he walked out on his team midseason, He is a selfish a brat and I think it's safe to say he won't be coming to Detroit any time soon.</div></div>
Yeah, I just don't know how NYR does it where it is respectful but doesn't hold them back.
I didn't know about the WJC incident. That is ridiculous.

Tough decisions on young players
You're going to get a lot of negative comments for this one. I'm a big fan of the idea of massaging a deal where Detroit takes the Eriksson contract for Demko. Virtanen is a nice start to try to balance it, but you would have some ways to go yet. Remember, Marleau went with a first and a seventh for a sixth. His contract was $6.25M for one more season. Add another season and the cap hell reality COVID has ushered in, and you will need more. If that's the measuring stick, then Eriksson is worth two firsts and two sevenths minus two sixths. One sixth is in the trade to begin with. One could point at Martin Jones as a comparative for Demko. He went for a first and Kuraly as a promising young goalie. So, that takes out a first. Kuraly was a promising center prospect in college and was a fifth round pick. Trading up two sevenths for a single a sixth and taking a little value out of the remaining first. Virtanen may eat up the rest of the value. Let other fans who are better at this than me argue that. But that leaves Pickard and Biega as overpayment.
So, based on the reasoning above, I would remove Biega and Pickard and maybe throw in a fifth to Detroit. Now, everyone commence in telling me how stupid I am. haha

We shall see. I see a handful of pay raises and no real salary coming off the books for NYR who has less than $4M of cap space as we speak. Why carry three goalies when the apparent third goalie now is eating $8.5M? I will be interested to see how they handle it no matter which way they go.

Philly moving youth in
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dca919</b></div><div>Detroit passes. 2 knee surgeries in less than a year. One in January and the 2nd in May both times removing cartilage--player will never be the same. The 2nd surgery was because he hit a rehab wall and wasn't recovering to playing condition. That limits his options going forward and increases the likelihood of re-injury. Gostisbehere is also Philly's 7th d-man because of those. You are overpricing him based on what he was pre-knee surgeries not post-surgeries.</div></div>
What about a second and Bowey? haha He could be the new Nick Jensen.

What Would Detroit Have to Give NYR
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aedoran</b></div><div>The only thing there that Detroit would want is the 1st round pick. Hank is an aging superstar why on earth would he want to spend his last season on a rebuilding Detroit team? I doubt he gets traded at all. Let him make the rounds and get honored by the rest of the league. At this point Andersson is known more for his off ice antics than his play. No way Yzerman brings him in to Detroit.</div></div>
Would Hank want to? No. Would he fill a need for Detroit for a season? Yes. Why take an aging guy with a huge contract for one season? He's still capable in the role he would play, and the contract nets you futures for cap space you weren't going to use anyway. As far as Andersson goes, maybe a change of scenery situation. I think I heard he wanted more playing time which he has a better chance at getting in Detroit than New York.
I'm not saying you aren't making good points. I'm just providing counter points.

I mean Athanasiou was worth two seconds and Gagner. Athanasiou has a higher goal output ceiling though. Ugh, I'm conflicted over this one as a Red Wings fan. I don't want to give up seconds, but Detroit does need more right wing depth. Virtanen would be a third line winger for them behind Mantha and Zadina. If it was a third, I wouldn't even hesitate. I might ultimately take the deal as Detroit, but I would have to hem and haw for a bit.

As a Detroit fan, I'm all in favor of this. A snowball being tossed in the sun has a better chance of making it through the encounter than this trade happening, but I'm all in favor. And let me be clear: I love Hicketts and Cholowski despite them underachieving at the NHL level. And I'm still eager to take this trade.

PK Subban to Wings
I'm open to taking on Subban's entire contract for two years. Detroit can absorb the whole thing without a worry in the world. However, this is just ludicrous honestly. Take on a horrible contract for more than a season and lose draft positioning for a less than serviceable defenseman (based on this season) and a young, promising goalie? Replace losing draft positioning for picks that make sense (must include at least one of those 2020 firsts) and probably another prospect or two and we're talking. $9M is a lot to unload on someone.
I'm not entirely certain that NJD even needs to do this looking at their long term outlook. Ride out the bad contract if you can. And don't give away the future goalie while keeping a guy that hasn't performed well for a while now.

Detroit isn't in a position to consider a trade that involves multiple picks for a player. They need as many as possible because they are about to raid their entire cupboard over the next couple of seasons.

Help Me Make This Work - Murray and Dunn
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dca919</b></div><div>Allen trade set the market. The cost of a one year option 1B goalie rental is a mid-third. One year RFA probably moves it up by half a round (low 2nd or early 3rd). Remember, Pittsburgh needs to unload salaries and protect against losing Murray or Tristan Jarry to the Kracken for nothing. One of their young goalies is going to be traded....and that limits the cost.
Dunn isn't going to be moved. You don't move 23 year old d-men with 1st pairing/#3 d-man upside. Now given St Louis' cap issue they are susceptible to an offer sheet ($4,227,438 - $6,341,152 is a 1st & 3rd---but i think even a bridge offer of $4,227,436 for only a 2nd would send panic through the Blues front office). That's about the only way to get Dunn other than a massive overpay in draft capital. And 2.5M is significantly under-priced for Dunn as any team with more than 3.5M in cap space picking towards the bottom of the 2nd round (with their own pick) would be happy to throw that offer sheet for him.
Mantha contract value looks right, but that term is too short. Either make it 1 year at less $ or that amount for more term.</div></div>
Thanks for the input.
With Dunn's contract, I was thinking bridge deal which typically comes under arbitration like money. I was definitely sweating if it shouldn't be more though.
Yeah, I go back and forth on Mantha's contract. I want long term, but he has just been so injury-ridden recently. The thought was give him a couple of years and pay big if he is healthy most of that time. Healthy, he could hit 40 goals and be worth way more than just $6.5M. So, it had advantages on both sides to take a shorter contract although it does place extra risk on Mantha.

Yeah, he was on TSN's trade bait list, so I was looking at how that would work out. Otherwise, I would've thought they would definitely keep him. They may have posted the trade bait article before knowing about the Allen trade though.
