Bill wtf are you doing
Short answer is GMBG is just continuing on with what he's been doing since he took over as GM. Overpay in money/term old players.

GMBG being himself. He likes giving the old guys too much money, term, and NTCs.

Solid argument for all of those. Milne is the only one I'm just not sure on. And I don't necessarily disagree, I just don't know enough to have an opinion. Only caught a handful of Iowa games, so I'll plead ignorance.
What do you think about my contracts for Hartman and Moose here? Think it's close-ish on both in terms of realism?</div></div>
Umm $4mx4 is the real for Foligno, yours made more sense.

MyWAYYYY to early guesses:
- Addison is gone after this year.
- Dewar either re-signs for cheap or is replaced.
- Duhaime pull a Strum and won't resign so is traded.
- Yurov makes the team out of camp. Marat K and Ohgren are in the AHL or overseas to start next year.
- Another locker room/grit guy is acquired via trade.
- Milne makes the team as a 4th liner.

Can we talk about that Freddy deal yet
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jnowariak</b></div><div>I think we’re just gonna have to disagree on our assessments of Rossi. I also think the conversation about him would be night and day if Dean gave him as much of a leash as he gives Freddy.
I’m expecting Rossi to put the “not ready” arguments to bed this year. And if he doesn’t, I’ll be in your camp.</div></div>
I don't see Dean giving Freddy any sort of long leash. Simply put Freddy G was better than the Jost, Dewar, Shaw, Reaves, ect. that MN ran in it's bottom-6 last year. Rossi wasn't in his 15-20 games. Hartman, JEE, Steel, and Rossi were the centers to start the year last year. Freddy G started the season as the 3RW.
I'm not a Freddy G fan by any means. It annoys me that he's playing so high in the lineup, but that is on the GM for the roster decisions he's made.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jnowariak</b></div><div>I’d kind of prefer Rossi playing 3rd line this year if you gave him an offensive minded W.
I see your point and agree Rossi is a top 6 guy, but try telling Dean Freddy isn’t a top 9 C or to take Hartman off of the 1st line (which is the only solution I see here). I also don’t want Rossi on the W.</div></div>
MN doesn't have any more offensive minded wings outside the top-6. Freddy G is ideally a 4C, Dean knows that, there is just no better option anywhere in the org to bump Freddy out of the top-9. It really just comes down to Rossi has to be better than Hartman and Freddy G to take their spot.
Last year Rossi was completely lost on the ice in the NHL, with everything about his game was too slow for the NHL. Shaw (rightfully) took the roster spot away from him.
Rossi has the skillset of a playmaking wing at the NHL level. He doesn't have the size or speed (you need at least one) to be a NHL center.

Freddy G doesn't block Rossi from anything. Rossi is top-6 or bust, Freddy G doesn't belong anywhere near the top-6. If there is one contract that blocks Rossi it's MarJo playing wing with Boldy/JEE. That is the spot Rossi fits on the roster.
I don't like the Freddy G contract because it's 2 years too long.

If Nylander Commits to FA
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Affectionate_Side_64</b></div><div>The fact it wasn't a coherent sentence was the confusing part. The cap is completely manageable with the Wild having young talent who they can slot in for cheap (Faber, Wallstedt, Rossi). This doesn't have to be the only trade they make all year my guy....</div></div>
You mean the same Rossi and Faber who are already on the NHL team? Wallstedt does what exactly to help MN's cap, MAF has a full NMC (and doesn't want to waive it) and Gus was just re-signed for 3 years. MN has some decent FWD prospects but 2 are untouchable in the KHL, a couple are in college, and a couple more aren't ready yet. Walker is the only FD prospect that has looked close to ready to be more than an injury callup.
MN needs centers, not wings; Hartman is MN's 1C because they have nobody else (JEE carries the other top-6 line) to play center. Trading away the only somewhat viable center on the team to play with Kap is just shooting themselves in the foot. If MN's season goes sideways Hartman will be traded for futures.
To make cap room MN has 1 player with a sizable contract that is somewhat tradeable in Zucc and even he has a 10 team NTC. Kaprizov, Boldy, Gus, and JEE are the contract MN has that are over $1.2m (besides the 3 already in this trade) that don't have at least a NTC of some sort. Zucc (10 team NTC) is the only sizeable contract that MN might be able to move, but it's not really worth it for MN to do.
And just FYI. Middleton is a 3rd pair d-man "playing up" on MN's 2nd pair with Sprugeon due to MN's lack of better options. Brodin is MN's 1LD and the lost their 1RD (Dumba) to free agency.

The MN trade doesn't make sense for either team.
-TOR gets terrible return of 2 rentals a a 3rd pair d-man with a bit of term.

I think Guerin might consider it too, because it doesn't seem like the coach likes Addison or wants to work with him at all to improve. You'd definitely have to take Rathbone out though. He would be considered a negative asset by Minnesota given their depth in the NHL and the prospect pool, all he'd do is block other guys we actually like. I would counter with Addison for Raty+3rd and see where that gets us.</div></div>
I'd be fine with Raty + 6th.

Allen having the extra year is a negative for MN. Gus re-signed just re-signed for 3 years. Wallstedt should be ready for the NHL after this AHL season.
Addison for Tuch is interesting from MN's PoV.

Selling at Deadline
If you're getting these types of returns MN won't be selling at the TDL because they'll be in contention.
Foligno probably tops out at a 2nd. His value won't change much due to teams getting him mainly for his "grit."
Goli, Maroon, MAF (not listed) probably each get 4th or 5th round picks, from teams looking to add injury replacement depth.
Zucc probably gets a 2nd, maybe a decent prospect on top of that.
Hartman is probably a 2nd also (his low cap hit helps a lot). He's, at best, a 3C for the rest of the Playoff teams in the league. More likely he is acquired to be a utility bottom-6 FWD.
Duhaime is a bit of a mystery return for me due to him being injured so much of last season. My gut says he could get a 3rd, but not much more.

Way to early
Having 3 centers 5'10" or shorter seems like a terrible idea to me.
I wouldn't commit term of more than 2 years to any of Dewar, Duhaime, or Foligno. Walker either breaks out an is worth well more than $1m/yr or he's just another tweener like Pitlick. MN has 3 recent 1st round FWDs that should be pushing the NHL lineup before those term longer term deals end.
I like Nylander, but not enough to pay him $10m/yr. The big hole in the team is still at center. I'd spend money on that before I worry about adding an expensive winger. It's much easier to turn a center into a winger, than it is to turn a winger into a center.

The extra $600k in cap would make it hard for MN to accept. It would probably probably Faber (waivers exempt) to the AHL.
I think the value of the trade is correct, maybe even in MN's favor a little. I don't mind the trade, but I also don't see a reason for MN to make the trade.

I agree Wallstedt is the #1. I have Rossi somewhere between 5th and 10th in the prospect pool, due to thinking his floor is AHL/KHL lifer.
I also have no clue what to make of Yurov or Kumpulainen as prospects, they are just a complete mystery box to me.

I really like what AZ has done with it's FWD group this offseason. Their d-corps is weak, but I'm hoping Dumba signs there. They need a goalie, but I said the same thing about Vegas all last season. They are my pick to finish 3rd in the Central. They have a distinct home ice advantage is a big plus.

Zucc's list I have as the worst 10 teams with cap space. I don't think he's too picky where he plays as long as it's for a Playoff hockey team.
Freddy G is a moot point to me. He has a new 5 year deal, so I don't see him being a trade chip at all this year.
Maroon. Does MN even honor his NTC after the trade? It's also a moot point to me because they can just send him through waivers and then it's finders keepers for him.

Time for some to fade and some to rise
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>csick</b></div><div>Theyre doing the right think tho, fading a bit but longterm its the right move as they have a very good prospect pool and trying to wait out the buyouts</div></div>
Their prospect pool doesn't impress me. No top pair d-men, not top line (maybe not even a top-6) center, maybe 1 top line winger, and a stud goalie is how I see it. As an organization they are awful at developing anything more than bottom of the lineup players in the AHL. Soucy, Kahk, Kunin, and Tuch are the best players (that spent more than half a season in the AHL) to come though the "system" since the team moved to Iowa over a decade ago.
They've taken 6 LD from '20 and '21 draft classes (4 of them with top-65 picks and 2 overagers in later drafts). That's too much of a good thing when it comes to getting quality development time. This is the first draft I've been okay with since GMBG took over.
