If they were going to do this (and I don't know enough about Krebs to know whether the Isles would), it would probably make more sense to play Nelson on the wing in the top-6 than it does to have him at 3C. Instead of paying Trenin $2.5MM to be LW4, use that money on a 3C to keep Brock in the top-6.

post draft retool
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Garak</b></div><div>CHI declines. CHI will deal with teams that actually want to pay for their cap dumps, they aren't a dumping ground. General rule of thumb for Kyle Davidson should be to take on contracts that actually bring quality assets into the rebuild. We don't need anymore mid to late round picks. The only way I could see him doing this is if he is confident he can flip him at the deadline for a 2nd or better, but another rule of thumb for KD is that he should not be making trades based on POSSIBLE future transactions. If it's a cap dump you pay for it, if you don't want to pay for it, find another team or keep the contract. I don't care how many goals Palmieri has this year, he will be 34 next year, is very expensive, won't put up those kinds of points on a bottom team, and likely won't garner any interest at the deadline. He has been in decline for years, one year isn't going to change that trajectory, only he can change that trajectory and I wouldn't bet on that happening. So, again, pay for him like a cap dump or find someone else. We aren't handing other teams $5M in cap space for what essentially amounts to nothing.</div></div>
Jason Zucker was worth a 6th at the deadline. He had 9 goals when he was traded, and has only had one good season in the last four years. If he's not a negative asset then neither is Palmieri. Chicago doesn't make sense as a destination, but Palms is not a straight cap dump.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JK74</b></div><div>It definitely won't be CHI then. It costs to dump Palmieri imo and a 5th won't get the deal done. Chicago is loaded with bottom six guys so there really isn't room for him anyways. If you can find a team willing to trade assets for him, have at it. Unfortunately in today's post-Covid NHL, not many teams can afford him.</div></div>
It shouldn't be Chicago, but they can probably move him to a non-rebuilding team that misses out on their UFA targets looking for a decent short term option for a mid round pick.

reset for roy
Palmieri is not a cap dump. At the deadline, Arizona got a 6th for Zucker who is 1) having a bad season (11 goals to Palmieri's 22) and 2) more expensive than Palms. I don't think they'll get much for Palms, but a one year rental on a cheap contract should be easily movable. I'd look at Toffoli as a comp - one year of him at $4.25MM was worth a 3rd and a good young roster player (Sharangovich). Palms is not going to be coming off as good a season as Toffoli was, so he won't return a package that good, but a 3rd or a 4th without the player seems reasonable.
I agree with the Hawks fans who don't want to pay for him though; he doesn't make sense for a rebuilding team. He'd only make sense for a playoff team that was looking for some secondary scoring with no long-term commitment required.

Seriously. The only way they get a deal that sweet is if they have a coupon or something. Any trade for Brock that doesn't include a 1st or a top prospect is a fleecing of the Islanders.

It'd be nice to see the Isles do <em>something</em>, but neither of those guys is remotely a difference-maker in the NHL right now. Isk is closer, but isn't even in the top 50 AHL scorers. Unless they're punting on the season (unlikely with Lou and Roy in charge) neither of Isk or Maggio belongs in the NHL at this point.

Pinto
Two firsts, a second, and a third, plus a good young wing, a halfway decent prospect, whatever Whalstom is considered at this point, and JGP for Pinto? Even if the second and third are in there for taking JGP's contract, it's still two firsts, a young roster player, and a prospect (and a reclamation project, I guess) for Pinto. Ottawa would be nuts not to take that offer, just the same as the Isles would have to be nuts to even make it.

Ducks to playoffs realistic
Three of your top-6 forwards have a total of 26 goals this season. All three are likely to be good NHL players at some point, but asking them to carry a team to the playoffs next season is a heavy lift.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Snowhawk18</b></div><div>Palmeiri has 21 and counting playing with the likes of Barzal, Horvat, Nelson, Pageau, Lee and Dobson, in Chicago he will be playing with potentially Bedard and hopefully Hall if he comes back healthy. Also, prior to this season Palmeiri had back to back 33 point seasons and didn’t eclipse 20 goals either year, so is this season an anomaly? Players typically don’t get better in their mid 30s.
For the Hawks it is all about team building right now, why invest $5m in a 33 year old winger who can walk at the end of next season? Under this proposal, acquiring Palmeiri would be all about hoping he has another season similar to this year while playing with a less talented roster just so he can be dealt next TDL for a good return… that’s a fool’s bet or moronic as you would put it.
It makes more sense for the Hawks to get their return for acquiring Palmeiri now and then anything they might potentially get at the 2025 TDL is a bonus. If the Islanders don’t like that they can go find a true moron to do business with… I would suggest Grier in San Jose, they guy is clueless.</div></div>
Then Chicago shouldn't trade for him, but to call him a cap dump that the Isles would have to pay to move is just dumb.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Garak</b></div><div>They actually are very comparable for multiple reasons. They are forwards with a history of high end play at the NHL level, are about the same age, declining, at a similar point in their career, are overpaid, both struggled to play a full season in recent years, and more importantly, the Isles are going to need the cap space. If the Isles aren't served well keeping him around at that cap hit, why would a bunch of cap strapped teams trade valuable assets for one year of a 34 year old with a $5M cap hit based on one decent season? When you look at his body of work in recent years, i'd bet on him dropping off significantly next year, especially joining a new team. Raddysh scored 20 goals last year, is 25 years old, PK's, is on a less than league minimum contract, and no one was willing to pay anything significant for him. He also played like garbage this year, albeit, on a severely depleted Blackhawks roster, but that would've been a much safer bet, yet no one made it.
Again, if the Isles can get something for him, good for them. But, there is a clear reason why Snowhawk used Bailey as a comp. I would bet that the Isles will have to pay to move him if they decide they need to move his contract, and if they do get something for him, it will be very minimal and might even require retention, which is something NYI would probably like to avoid.</div></div>
You have to combine Bailey's last two seasons together to get to as many goals as Palmieri already has this season. Comparing the two is like apples and socket wrenches. Arizona got a 6th for Zucker at the deadline and has half as many goals as Palmieri and a higher cap hit. Like I said, they're not going to get a haul for Palms if they move him, but they absolutely will not need to pay someone to take him.

This is moronic. Palmieri is at 21 goals and counting. Bailey was one of the worst players in the league last year. The two are not even remotely equivalent.

That <em>is</em> a terrible trade, but for the opposite reason. Palmieri is a 20-goal scorer on a reasonable contract with no term beyond next season - basically a one-year middle-six rental. The Isles aren't going to get a massive package back for him or anything, but there's no way they'd have to pay to get someone to take him.

Rakell is a cap dump. 30-years old with four more years @ $5MM and having a poor season = you're not getting anything back for him. Aside from that, the Isles don't have the cap space for him even if you gave him away for free.
