Definitely a HARD NO to the TOR Trade</div></div>
I am a Leafs fan, and that is a abolutely terrible for Calgary.
1. Andersson's contract for what he does is phenomenal. Perhaps one of the best contracts in the NHL right now.
2. Magniapane at $2.9 million would be a steal imo. He is the kind of mucky player the Leafs do need, but....
3. And two picks?🤣
4. if you go waaaaay back in my profile you will find my arguments why Marner never was, never has been or never will be worth $11 million. He is great sure. Not $11 million worth of it.
If I were Conroy, I would find it hard to justify moving Andersson for Marner straight up....... just because of the contracts.
Most fans valuation of Marner is absurd. This is just another case.

How you don't find the deal that brought Gilmour to Toronto as the best in season deal is beyond me.
McCabe? Not even close to be being on the same level.

Otherwise more or less decent.</div></div>
I was very much on the fence with Provorov. Further, if he plays like he did last year, he might be worth more at the deadline than now.
Moving Provorov is certainly an option..... but being only 26, opted to give him some runway here to see what he can do and if he can fit.
As for Forbort..... really a one year stop gap. I really don't think Mateychuk is going to take long to hut the line up. If it isn't Forbort (which is fine), the idea is a vet stay-at-home guy on a one year deal.

A 3-way deal of sorts.
The Jackets would have absolutely no use for him. That is clear. So, weaponize the cap space and the Jackets move someone they have no room for in Boquist, and turn it into a 2nd.
If Smith pouts in Edmonton, I think his NHL career is done lol. Like Vegas, the Oilers are in Cup conversations these days.

That is exactly the point..... Smith has ine year left.
The team missed the playoffs. And outside of Smith, locked into a number of contracts long term.
I can appreciate the thought of "win with Sid", but going after UFA's to fill that roster out with more money and term will only cause more long term pain.
In terms of the deal, the Pens have almost nothing in terms of younger or even NHL worthy prospects outside of St. Invary; and even there is he a player that moves the needle?
Moving a 31 year-old expiring contract for a 24 year old RD, for the Pens..... just makes sense to me.
We can agree to diagree here. When it comes to the Pens, there is no grey area. it is either move to get younger or push to win. Not sure there is a middle ground there.

IF I were going to dive into the UFA market on the wing (which is just the weirdest place for the Wild.to invest); Bertuzzi just doesn't move the needle enough.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>exo2769</b></div><div>This is an interesting team. I see you're a Leafs fan and I think you've done a decent job above talking about a different team. A couple of points that I'd make.
I don't want Victor Olofsson at all. One dimensional is the wrong thing this team needs. Seems like a band aid fix where we need to be making strides forward and giving our prospects ice time. Player development is crucial for the Hawks right now. I'd rather have Domi, Henrique, Bertuzzi, heck a lot of guys over Olofsson.
I've been vocal on here that the Hawks need a Phyiscal Veteran RD presence because just as you have outlined...the Hawks are going to have (3) players either in their 2nd year or even their rookie year on the Left. Del Mastro might get the nod over Kaiser for a good portion of next season...if this season in Rockford has been any indication. I don't think Schmidt is the guy they're looking for, but if the price is right...then I'd at least understand. With that said. It would likely be a pick as the Hawks are already looking for ice time for their own prospects. I can't see them interested in David Gustaffson.</div></div>
I hear you on Olofsson. Don't get me wrong. I see this as more an investment than anything else. I signed him with the full intention of moving him. The players you mentioned, which anyone would sooner have, are likely to carry multi-year deals which I wanted to avoid for the very reasons you laid out..... Kids have to play, and I don't want to block there way to NHL ice time.
As for the blueline, that is a conundrum. If it wasn't so young, I would have 100% put Crevier on the 3rd pairing. It is just sooooo young. And, finding a vet presence via the UFA market, where there is sound logic to it, then may block the Crevier's, Del Mastro's and Phillip's of the world - which is sort of counter productive in a rebuild.
Lastly, quite possible there is no interest in Gustafsson. Conversely, as I said, he is young enough to fit the rebuild, and worth a test drive imo. To your point, you could also sign a vet to add that presence to the locker room in the roster spot.
The difficulty I had here is that this team is so young, and the core is insanely talented, with a really solid system. Rushing the kids (a classic Leafs move), is something I would want to avoid. Looking at it, the Hawks are not going to compete next year either; so looking a short term fills in hopes of flipping them into picks seems prudent. I think 25-26 maybe the year the Hawks look at the UFA market more seriously..... but this just isn't it.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hawksguy81</b></div><div>Really solid explanations and the ideas make sense to a point. Can't see the Hawks signing Olafsson though. He is a FAR TOO one dimensional player. Hawks can find a much better option. I'd rather try Joey Anderson in that spot than Olafsson or bring back Kubalik as a UFA. At least Kubalik throws a check once in a while. I'm fine w/ acquiring Schmidt, but Gustafsson isn't a player the Hawks would want. Hawks already have several guys with similar skills to Gustafsson. No need to add another. I'd rather re-sign Blackwell or Reese Johnson than take on Gustafsson. If that's the best deal the Jets offer to take Schmidt, Hawks pass and go the free agent route.</div></div>
I thought about Kubalik, but wasn't sure.....
Really, the idea in signing a 1 year deal is finding the right guy, on the right deal, knowing full well you plan on moving them at the deadline. Moreover, I was looking for a cap hit that didn't need retention. Males it a bit more of a finite field.
I get what youbare saying about Olofsson though. 100%. But, out of what is out there, I thought he maybe a guy that maximizes a return. He can score. The restvof the game..... well, yeah lol.

Avs Devs
It's an interesting idea.
But, as a fan of neither team, here are my thoughts:
1. The Avs move cap space
2. The Avs get younger
3. Arguably, the Avs with Holtz do get the best offensive player - albeit that has yet to be proven.
4. With Colton, the Devils do add a more physical element. Same with Manson.
5. With Colton, the Devils do add more flexibility in the middle 6 (specifically with Haula and Colton).
So, where one could see the possibility of this working for both sides; I would say that this current construct is far more beneficial to the Avs.
Therefore...... something I think maybe missing. Perhaps a conditional pick? It really is the Holtz factor. If he realizes his potential, this is a slam dunk of a home run deal.for the Avs..... and I don't see Fitzgerald allowing that to happen. What this is, is a good ole fashioned hockey deal in the making which adds elements to both line ups..... but the Avs are simply missing something in that package for me.

You need around $20 million with 8 players to sign.</div></div>
You can sign a series in one-year riduculous contracts that Grier would have no hope in moving, or a series of one-year contracts on some reclamation projects that can garner additional assets.
Like odds are you are riding out Granlund for the year unless a 3rd party is involved..... and that diminishes the return.
Not even in an ideal spot to take a bad contract for picks. Because a guy like Anders Lee..... Sharks cannot retain for a year.
With all the retention spots full, singing the cheaper deals seems far more pragmatic.

And if Bert didn’t get paid this past off season while he was playing much better than what makes you think he’ll get paid this one. Hey, you can try to do this on the cheap. Maybe a home run is hit. But if the Cats want to compete in the East, they are gonna have to spend something. If not Bert, it's Teravainen. Maybe you bring back a diminishing Tarasenko. Don't think I didn't look for the diamond in the rough.
As for Montour, thank you for proving my argument. Yup..... open market he probably does see around $8 million. Right shot D. You can ignore the position he plays in order to sell the asking price as high..... but it certainly won't be far off the mark. Using your own math, Forsling in the market is around $7 million, playing LD.....

Grier has spent the last 18 months gutting the roster because it finally hit home the team needed a rebuild. His moves had very little to do with size amd everything to do with young players and assets.
Dealing for a 5'10 178lb defenseman doesn't exactly support your argument. Nor does Eklund being in the line up..... who is about the same size as Robertson.

One thing the Preds have that the Sens don't: the cap space to extend Chychurn. I could see Trotz pulling the trigger on that if the extension was in place. I think he rolls the dice if it wasn't.
Aside from that, I don't think Dallas would have any interest in Brännström. He would almost be their #7 D..... and a pricey one for that roll. Could see that being a flip for a soon to be NHL player, or a Lassi Thompson, who would be close to league minimum in that role. Still, the way Dallas is stacked up, I don't see them willing to move Delandrea......

Just gonna take another season with bob still around. Montour isn’t playing like he did last year and forsling is a better dman than him so they should sign the same contract. Bertuzzi may get overpaid but 6 million from Florida is crazy. He’s get 4 tops here with no taxes.</div></div>
Bert's contract may sound crazy, but you have to look at the market l. Razor thin for forwards. Over payments there are gonna be the norm I am afraid. And if the Cats are gonna remain relevant, they will have to dive on. No one is the system. Don't hate the player, hate the game situation. Other option would be rolling the dice on someone. Not sure I go there.
Montour: RD defenseman with an offensive game. Those don't grow on trees. So where you are right in saying Forsling and Montour are in equal levels - paying the RD is the difference. The D market maybe strong this year, but the right side isn't. Montour is far amd away the best of the lot imo. As I said, Walker would work as a replacement, but you do take a step back offensively. But the money is probably more in tube with what you want to spend.
