Build around bedard
No. The Hawks need to tank for one more season, and this is coming from a Hawks fan. They need to ensure they're getting another top 10 pick next season, all while taking on 1-2 expiring and bad contracts from other teams for picks/prospects. Load up on pipeline, then go all-in in 2-3 seasons. The same way they brought in Havlat, Campbell and Hossa (and others) around the time Toews/Kane were drafted.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Sports_Guy</b></div><div>Only thing I would see being wrong with this trade is how it effects the cap. Every buck counts for a team like Tampa especially when they need to re-sign a few guys like Brayden Point next year.</div></div>
Rutta is on a one-year deal, meaning he comes off the books for next season.. thus, you won't have to worry about his cap hit next season and can put the money towards Point.

Pacio
As a Hawks fan, I would not give up more than Murphy and a pick for Pac, and would not include the first round pick. It's simply not worth it for one-year left on his contract.. unless he's signing an extension, which I would also be worried about. They need money to sign Schmaltz, DeBrincat and Sikura the next few years

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>I just don't think you understand "RFA" . Detroit would easier match the offer and retain him, hence the word "Restrictive". It's still a 6.8m Seabrook for cap hit for Vancouver which isn't all that attractive. Seabrook has moved away from "home" in 2001 to play hockey, a half life time ago. Not sure of Vancouver ties, he actually "summers" in the mountains closer to Calgary.</div></div>
I am fully aware of what RFA means, as it's "Restricted," not "Restrictive." Any team can offer a RFA a contract (called an offer sheet), and then that the team that owns that players right, can retain him, or let him walk and get draft picks in return based on the players average salary earned; I even said Detroit would match the offer sheet when I said "but they would likely just get matched." I didn't say his contract is attractive in any manner, as the trade mentioned above wouldn't be agreed upon, nor did I say it would. I simply meant he grew up South of Vancouver, and likely has family there, which is why I said that was "home."

The cap will likely be between 78-82 million, so you're overshooting a tad there.

Actually, Vancouver is home for Seabrook, so yes, he would likely accept that deal. If someone knows a team is looking to trade them, they likely aren't going to say no, especially if it means going home. Also, and yes, those RFA's would take those deals from Chicago, but they would likely just get matched; well, Larkin's would..not sure if they would match Dano's, and not sure why the Hawks would offer Dano 1.5 a year when he can't stay in Winnipeg's lineup.

I'm just curious, but what happens when Anisimov comes off IR in a few weeks, or month or two? You only have 450k in cap space, and no where to put him? You can't just leave him on IR all season when he's healthy.

If Bowman wants to secure a playoff spot this season.
You should rename this. "If Bowman wants to get fired this offseason." As a Hawks fan, these moves are absurd. Sure, Panik is making too much for the production he is supplying, but it's not just him not producing; it's over half the team. Mark Stone would get much more than that on the market, and would ask for more. He would likely get a deal around Saad's 6-6.5 million a year.. which would be right for a top-2 line player averaging just under a point per game. You're also giving up way too much of the future (all those top picks) for a team that's not even in a top-8 spot at the moment..

Tavares FTW
Don't forget overages for next season:
Sharp - 200,000 (already hit his bonus)
DeBrincat - 182,500 (likely to hit, just need to play in 68 games)
Schmaltz - (up to 650,000 for Schedule A bonuses)
Rutta - (up to 425,000 for Schedule A bonuses)
Schmaltz and Rutta will likely get some, and possibly all of their bonuses. Therefore, overages could be anywhere 807,000 and upward. We also (yes, he could walk) need to assume the Hawks will sign Dylan Sikura after this season at Northeastern. It would be a 2-year deal where the first year is burned this season (like Hayden's last season), and he would likely need to be convinced he'll get a top-2 line player.

Last seasons leading scorer as a healthy scratch? Though.. I'm high on everyone else in the top9, so at least throw him on the 4th line. I would personally move Vinnie down, but that's just me. Yes, the kid is fast.. but that's it. He lacks the hockey sense to play in the NHL. Excited to see what Raddysh can bring, as I expect the Hawks to sign him to a 2-3 year entry level deal some time this season.

what if.
As a Hawks fan, I will say... you're dreaming. There's no way Columbus would trade their top defenseman; plus, Murray could be in many other teams top 4D, if not already considered so in Columbus. Sure Toronto wants a veteran defenseman, but they can't take on Seabrook's cap hit unless either the Hawks retain a portion or the Hawks REALLY sweeten the pot.. Large extensions are in order for Matthews, Marner and Nylander in 2 years, and they'll need a ton of money for that.

Um, what is this? The Hawks are not buying out Hossa's contract, as they'll almost for sure be able to just place him on LTIR. This was a pointless team to create.

17-18 Team
Wrong LTIR option for Hossa. They'll get a full 5.275, as they're going to wait until day two of the season and then put him on LTIR. As a Hawks fan, they wouldn't get that back for Kruger. They're at every other team's mercy here, as they all know Stan needs to shred that cap space. They'll get a 6th or 7th round pick back. What about Wingels, Bouma? You need to add them in there as well (yes, I know this site doesn't have their cap hits yet), but they'll be on the team.

Bouma and Wingels got less than that, that's for sure. My guess is 650-750 each. As far as LTIR, the Hawks will be placing Hossa on LTIR the second day of the season. Therefore, they'll need to be 100% cap-compliant when the season starts, and then have 5.275 million in cap space the whole season. So...Hossa should be on the roster, and they should be under the cap. They could start the first day with the minimum of 20 players (store 3 in Rockford - of which can be sent there), put Hossa on LTIR, and than call 3 up the second day. Or, just store enough in Rockford to be under the cap.

You clearly don't know how RFA works..RFA means the team who currently owns someone's rights (Parayko, Arvidsson, Burakovsky) can match any offer another team makes their players.. and all three teams would gladly match that contract. Panik would get 3-4 times that on the market (when compared to other player's contacts..like Shawzy), and you might want to remove a 0 from Campbell's contract.

worst case scenario for the Hawks(Seabs, Panarin. Arty, and Kruger all stay)
Definitely pretty worse case right here. But, my expectation is that Stan would make sure Vegas takes Kruger by making one of those trades where Vegas says they'll select Krugs, and the Hawks give them a draft pick and rookie from Rockford.

Max roster size is 23. I would send 3 of those players to Rockford, and remove one of those depth signings, and sign someone reasonable with that cap space saved by removing 4 players from the roster.

Not too sure about those trades. The Hossa one might be the most realistic, but Arizona is rebuilding and wouldn't want to add a 38-year old. The Hawks would not get back Henrique in that deal, as that is a salary-cap dump, and no team will want to take on a 32-year old who is only getting slower as the league gets faster; oh, and the 7 years remaining on his contract. That looks like an awful trade for Crawford, who is hovering around the elite stage. Don't flame me for saying elite, I said hovering. In any trade, Crawford would likely get the most return (unless they deal Hjalmarsson). This is all coming from someone who has played hockey his whole life, and diehard Hawks fan..

How about those 3.6 million dollars in overages? A Seabrook trade (though, likely impossible due to 7years remaining and him being 32, needs to be explored. Hjalmarsson is just too valuable. But.. being realistic, he might be a cap casualty, if Seabrook isn't willing to waive his NMC, or nobody takes him. Hawks would have to reallllllllly sweeten the deal with either picks or rookies to dump Seabrook's contract.

Two Big Trades. May or May Not be realistic. You Decide
Here's my take on the expansion draft. If I was Vegas, I would take TVR over Kruger, just to screw the Hawks, salary cap-wise. Which.. is why I believe the Hawks will deal TVR, to pretty much force Vegas to take Kruger. But.. if they want to keep Jurco's RFA status, they need to tender him, which would make him available for the draft..which Vegas could take him then; it's complicated lol...
How about this one - Panarin for Saad? Each makes 6 million. Columbus could use a skill player, and the Hawks need some more hard-nose players (hugely evident in this series).. Panik would likely get a tad more than that, given his 20+ goals, but not too much more. I think Seabrook would be the best option to deal (but there wont be many takers / wouldn't get as much back). He's getting slower, as the leagues getting faster.
If all else fails, I hate to say it, but trade Toews. It's seeming impossible to have great depth with two players making almost 30% of the salary cap. Their 8.4 combined in raises took away 2 depth players. Toews for Duchene? Toews could teach Jost how to be the leader he'll be in a few years.

Option 2
If Hjalmarsson is out, they would only trade for one defenseman. It wouldn't make sense to acquire two, because in the playoffs (assuming hammer is back) it would create too large of a logjam. I think they would do what they did with Kaner; put him on LTIR, get cap space, and use that to acquire a defenseman, and another depth forward (even after getting Jurco).

2018 Team Canada Olympics
After the Bergeron-Crosby-Marchand show at the World Cup of Hockey, Bergeron and Marchand will likely make the team, unless they're hurt. Plus, those two can play both the PP and PK, which makes them even more valuable. I agree with the person above, as Carter likely makes it. If I had to take 3 off, to add Bergeron, Marchand and Carter.. it would likely be Giroux, Scheifele, and either Getzlaf or Hall. MacKinnon can be deadly because of the large ice, so he probably stays on. All in all.. tough decisions are great to have.
