Torontos Time To Win
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Barilko14</b></div><div>Holl would be my choice if someone needed to be traded, but I would have Sandin force his way into the lineup. Rotate Lehtonen and Bogosian as 6th dmen to start with either Dermott or Holl on 3rd pair.
Imo, if any of the depth wingers Engvall, Barabanov, Simmonds, Vesey aren't getting the job done, I could see Leafs roll 7 dman fairly often. Let all of the big 4 fwds get some extra shifts on 4th line, and let Bogosian rotate through the pairings and take PK duties off of Rielly hands to get him some extra rest over the season.</div></div>
I can see the Leafs rolling 7 defenceman and if Holl has to get traded, then maybe a 4th and a 5th/6th round pick for him. We save on cap space and any team would love to have a cheap defenceman with term. Keep in mind the Leafs till have Petan, Boyd, Rosen and others to fill in the spots in case the others don't fulfill their roles. With the depth Toronto has right now, I believe it will be a better team than last year.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Barilko14</b></div><div>Dermott's qualifying offer is almost $900k, so he won't be signing for less than that. IMO unless another move is made on the backend, Dermott claims a top 4 spot this season. None of Sandin, Lehtonen or Bogosian played 17 min/night last year in the NHL, so all of them are below him on the depth chart. Dubas is a straight shooter, he said Dermott should get a shot at RD this season, so it's him vs Holl for top 4 minutes, and Dermott has a way higher ceiling, so he could/should pass him this season.
Players with 39 games of experience under their belt have very little to stand on arbitration. The hearing is next week, and I'm pretty sure Leafs have no problem going that route. He'll be lucky top $1.25m per.
I also doubt Kerfoot is moved unless someone a like Haula is signed.</div></div>
I'm not saying Dermott won't play, but with the options available, I just don't know if he'll get the minutes he's looking for. Now the Leafs have a good problem on defense and its who to put as the last pairing. Bogosian, Liljegren, Holl and Sandin. 2 spots open for 4 guys and I can see Bogosian getting one of them, but having a $2 million player on the 3rd defensive pairing is a little much. Do you see Holl getting traded?
Mikheyev might get a prove it deal for a million? Sounds reasonable, but if they're thinking more than a year with him, its why I went with $2.5 million for Mikheyev.
I'd be happy with Kerfoot staying but with the Leafs needing cap space, it's why I traded him here but I'd be happy if he stays

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Barilko14</b></div><div>Sounds like Toronto is confident Mikheyev doesn't have a strong case in arb. So I'm thinking Dermott plus Mikheyev come in at $2.5m combined at absolute most.
Also sounds like Pridham will be this seasons MVP in saving capspace, so they can probably add Thornton and keep Kerfoot. Kerfoot would then be best option on 2nd line wing if Thornton can hold down 3C.</div></div>
First of all, love your username. Secondly, if they can save cap space without trading Kerfoot, then I'd be happy, much like the rest of Leafs nation. My theory when it comes to Toronto is that Dermott plays the season while scratched for most of the games, so he at least gets the league minimum. Once the following season happens, Bogosian will probably leave Toronto and it will leave Liljegren, Sandin and Dermott battling for the final defensive spot on the Leafs, and I'm pretty sure Toronto doesn't want to lose Dermott, let alone Liljegren and Sandin. Mikheyev might get a cheaper deal in arbitration, but I see it where he gets $2.5 million as he did well before being injured. If can stay healthy, I can see it but I don't know what Toronto wants to give Mikheyev

I believe Thornton will sign with Toronto for a year at the league minimum. with that said, Leafs need cap space and trading Kerfoot for assets seems logical

They are not run by the TML who throw cash around just like their draft picks to win now. Kings are not in that position. It's not a matter if they can afford to do it, it is a matter of why would they want to take on additional salary when there are better players and situations for them to choose from. There is no real benefit for them in this trade.</div></div>
They'd still get a Top 10 pick in 2021 at this rate, but adding a veteran for cheap and 2 players who are making their way to the NHL could help these prospects the Kings have. The Kings should make this move and if they find something else to fit their team, they can either flip any of the players the Leafs give them or use their cap space to their advantage

Its actually a solid trade for the Leafs. Merkley has a lot of potential, Arizona's 1st would be something the Leafs would want (no way they're getting 7OA unless Dubas and Shanahan does something that NJ can't pass up) and if the Leafs can sign Palmieri for cheap ($4 million/year) then hey I'd take it. MacLeod is a nice addition as well

When you have 2 guys in your Top 4 lines on ELCs, you can afford to make this deal, not as a cap dump, but to improve your lineup at a reasonable price

Kings will wait and see how desperate some teams are to move players or contracts this off season. There will be plenty to pick from.</div></div>
The Kings are just under $17 million from the cap and they could use a LW, and Kerfoot can play LW. If Toronto wants to get value out of Kerfoot, a few prospects can sweeten the deal for them. Otherwise, I can see maybe a mid round pick for Kerfoot only but getting 2 picks off of the Kings will likely need prospects to be involved for LA to make this deal

It would be something for LA to want. 3 guys who are established and can play in the NHL immediately, as opposed to waiting on how long their picks will be to make it to the NHL (minus the 2nd overall pick, who will probably be NHL Ready regardless of who they choose)

Still got enough cap space to use $5 million in players they can use to keep protected. Getting rid of 2 mid round picks and a low-mid tier prospect shouldn't hinder the Kings from doing this deal.

Leafs do not need draft capital. Especially latter mid 1sts. They are trying to push now not rebuild. Even if they wanted to rebuild they would get twice that return for nylander. It’s not even close.</div></div>
They lose one piece of the team and they're rebuilding? Think about this long term. The Leafs get relief from cap space to make room to sign others while getting value in return. The other guys on the Leafs may not be as good as Nylander but the deal is worth it to sign the key guys when their contract is up and whoever the Leafs draft or sign will fill in Nylander's skates. Reminder, they need to sign Andersen should the Leafs keep him and Rielly might be looking at a big payday in 2 years. This trade works for the Leafs.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MrGnarVar</b></div><div>i like this trade for both teams as well but I would want it to happen at the draft in case there is a guy NJ really likes at 18. Because i think pick 20 could get this done in a pinch depending on who's available and who each team is high on.
You are also correct in assuming 7OA is not getting moved by NJ.</div></div>
Its a realistic possibility for sure because the Leafs could use the cap space and draft capital (then again, who wouldn't) and NJ would get a guy who could be Palmieri's replacement but better. Idk what NJ will get for Palmieri but an opportunity to upgrade with a guy whose proven that he could play and has term on his deal would probably be too good for NJ to pass up. Considering their picks, the Leafs would obviously want one of them but getting 2 is asking for a lot from NJ, which is why I included 2 prospects and a 4th rounder to make the Leafs get value from Nylander and NJ doesn't have to spend a lot for someone like the Islanders did with getting JGP. Both teams benefit from this deal, regardless if it happens before, during or after the draft.

If we learned anything from the Leafs rebuild is that when you have an ample amount of picks, you can afford to give up a few to get a guy or 2 to start in your lineup immediately. The Kings wouldn't do it if they didn't have a surplus of picks but because they do, they can make this move

I was thinking maybe go with New Jersey's 1st but chances are they don't want to give up their own 1st but with 2 other 1st round picks, the Leafs might want the middle of 1st round picks in a deep draft. Plus the Leafs stock the cupboards with Clarke and McCarthy and if they have cap space to sign them in the future, they can sign them. Otherwise, they can trade them for more assets, but I do like the potential of both of them.
