Offseason stars
Why would Dallas bother with Merzlikins? They've already got a top three goalie in the league, and Elvis is a clubhouse cancer who will pout if treated like a backup (ask us how we know). There will be plenty of other perfectly average goalies available this summer who don't come with that baggage.

Columbus doesn't own that pick. The conditions from the Provorov trade were that Columbus can choose 2024 for 2025, and since they're going to finish fourth-worst this season, there's no chance they don't keep it this year.
Also not sure Dvorak is worth a second rounder.

You’re forgetting that Columbus is simultaneously a tire fire void of any talent and also full of prospects other teams would kill to get their hands on. Honestly, we should be delighted to take the Leafs’ scraps since they’re the <em>Leafs</em>’ scraps.

A team starved for centers isn’t moving a decent one three years into his development for a tiny winger prospect who can’t stay healthy and a future first. No.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jacketsman61</b></div><div>It is clear that we cannot carry Elvis and his 5.4 mil cap hit for the next 3yrs. He is not even a backup and how could you even suggest 5.4 mil per for a backup? Buy out is imminent. A lot of people should get used to the idea that we may clean house and could move salary out of town too.</div></div>
Columbus won’t have to pay to get rid of him. They may not get anything in return, but they’ll move him without paying this summer.

Roster Overhaul - Sens Cup 2005
No one's trading anything for Norris until he can prove he's healthy. Three surgeries on the same shoulder is a huge red flag. Thinking you can get a first for a player like that is delusional.

I'm struggling to remember a time a team ever traded three non-prospects together for a late pick like that. Somehow I doubt that is a thing.

Yeah, that 3 million in 2026 right when all our best young players need new contracts is very affordable.

Or Columbus can just retain Laine in hopes he rebounds and not take your scraps and cap dumps.
Also Arizona tells you to kick rocks. Jordan Harris has no value, especially not to entice them to take on Gallagher.

The GM that offer-sheeted him many years ago is long gone.
His next contract is your problem, Leafs. Sorry. You're not sending him to a rebuilding team for half their assets. Be real.

Offseason
Columbus and Carolina both pass on the Jiricek/Necas swap. Does nothing for Columbus, who's full of talented wings and has no other RHD prospect, and also does nothing for Carolina who's full of currently-better defensemen and dearly needs a scoring winger.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jonh514</b></div><div>It's interesting because I am a big proponent of the Habs doing what the CBJ did when they brought in Gaudreau. I am surprised it has not had a significant impact on their rebuild.
I don't think this is right for the Habs, but I would not be upset if the cost is a late 1st round pick (like Winnipeg pick) plus a short term cap relief going back like Dvorak.</div></div>
Columbus is a conundrum. There's so much talent in the organization and it just... doesn't work. Some of it is terrible management, especially back to back bad coaches. But that can't be all of it.

Nash Vogelhuber Celebrini
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaseyFlyman</b></div><div>There's some good stuff here overall, but to pick and choose:
1. Celebrini - awesome, but I'm not banking on anything. I'm assuming the pick is 5OA (seems like a safe bet we pass one of Arizona, Ottawa, or Montreal; or get leapfrogged by a team farther back winning one of the lotteries), where I'd like to see one of Levshunov (to get another blue-chip RD in the system), Lindstrom (size and skill with a high floor?), or Catton (skilled play-driving gamebreaker we're lacking), whoever is still available at 5OA if Celebrini and Demidov are also top-5.
6. Mateychuk - I wish he was AHL-eligible next season...definitely nothing left to prove in the WHL, but he's not a 3rd-pair guy stylistically, and he's blocked by Provorov as long as he's here. I think you have to have him on the NHL roster next season and look to move Provorov closer to January than TDL if Mateychuk looks promising. We could probably use an insurance veteran 7th D on a cheap deal for a couple of seasons for that scenario, and for NHL depth/3rd-pair minutes.</div></div>
As of now, Chicago, Pittsburgh, and New Jersey will all be lottery eligible and their picks protected. One of them will win the lottery, guaranteed. Chicago and Pittsburgh for obvious reasons, NJ because they’re the luckiest lottery team since 2010. I assume 6OA for Columbus. I am not even looking at anything about Celebrini or Demidov.
Mateychuk’s a 2004 birthday and the current season is his fourth CHL season. He’s definitely AHL eligible next year.

Seattle's a good target for Laine, but not Eberle. He just signed an extension with a full NTC. I'd go for Yanni Gourde instead.
Nash and Vogelhuber are both probably the future, but not yet. Bring in veterans for both jobs now with eyes on promotions, a la Sakic to President and MacFarland to GM in Colorado.
Don't see either New Jersey or Vancouver biting on those.

Which is fantastic, because Columbus doesn't make the offer nyway. The GM who wanted Marner is long gone, and Columbus has about 150 better uses for 13 million dollars than another winger.

I could see Columbus considering trading their own pick for Rossi. But the Habs don't come close to being a middleman there.
