Wheeler left unprotected? Then Seatlle would take him hands down.
Demelo also being left unprotected is also not very smart by WPG. They are in a bind.

Yeah, I thought the pick was lower.
I can see them losing Stanley then.

Isles 22
nice one.
The Isles do not have to give Koivula, Bellows, or Dal Colle (maybe Dal Colle?) A raise.
Koivula and Bellows are coming off 2-way contracts. They'd be happy to sign a 1-way contract at league minimum - they don't have any leverage. Dal Colle signed a 2 year league minimum after his ELC was up.
The same goes with Golyshev - I don't think you need to sign him at 1.2 - league minimum is fine.
You have forgotten Greene's 2m bonus and you need an extra d man.

Isles Palmieri instead of Eberle
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Isles777</b></div><div>Last season fans wanted to trade toews because he was brutal against Tampa but Palmieri was arguably worse this playoff run and every ACGM has him getting 5 years until he’s 35 lol.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Eberle gets taken in expansion, but it only makes sense if it’s being done to add more term to beauvillier + pelech . Doing it to sign a soon to be 4th liner in palmieri shouldn’t be the plan.</div></div>
I don't think Beau and agent try to sign a long term deal just yet - IMO, I think player and agent will angle for a shorter deal and try to maximize long term when financial landscape improves.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Isles777</b></div><div>I agree, and varlamov has value in a trade. Someone would overpay. If Eberle is exposed, Seattle will take him. They have a huge analytics department.
Barzal also needs at least one winger who can read off of him and be highly effective in transition. Barzal needs someone who can think like him and also have the puck skills to execute give and go plays through the neutral zone. If isles exposed eberle and then signed Tomas tatar to a 4 mill x 2 deal, I’d be in favor of that.</div></div>
I like Tatar, but I think he scores more than a 2-year deal this coming summer.

Let's slow down - Schmidt isn't Nick Lidstrom.
Schmidt is mainly moved out because of his cap hit.

Puck moving D
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Isles777</b></div><div>It depends on how many teams are interested in Dunn. He provided top pairing value in 2 of the last 3 seasons - the isles tanked bellows value by playing guys like komarov over him and burying him for long stretches . Bolduc is a decent prospect but he is extremely overrated by isles fans. I watched a lot of his games this season and he has solid physical tools, but he doesnt think the game at a high level and he’s not a good puck mover/ creative with the puck. It looks like he’ll be a 3rd pairing defensive defenseman in the NHL.
<strong>It was reported komarov agreed to go back to the KHL if the isles buy him out.
</strong>
Salo was dominant in one of the best professional leagues in the world and he turns 23 in October. Many scouts believe he was NHL ready last season - and he can alternate with Ben Hutton to start. Golyshev is already 26 and will likely sign a 1 way deal this summer, apparently he was looking for a house on LI - if he isn’t given a fair shot he’ll probably go back to Russia. He probably doesn’t want to play in the AHL, just like sorokin.
Ross johnston would look out of place in the ECHL. Did you see the players that went unclaimed on waivers this past season? No one would claim Ross , isles would have to give a pick to get rid of him.
Derek Ryan had a great season - he’s one of the best defensive forwards in the NHL and he is one of the best forecheckers. He’s a lot better than Trevor Lewis
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">By the way, we believe you can acquire Taylor Hall for 1st round pick or player like Derek Ryan for 3rd round draft pick for example. <a href="https://t.co/3C1hmOvW2D" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">pic.twitter.com/3C1hmOvW2D</a></p>— Andy & Rono 📊 (@HockeyStatsCZ) <a href="https://twitter.com/HockeyStatsCZ/status/1381336955670163459?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">April 11, 2021</a></blockquote>
</div></div>
Where was this reported? And why do the Isles care if he goes back to the KHL - why would that be an incentive for the team?
You also realize Bolduc was playing as 21 year old a season after he got drafted and is learning the pro game.
I doubt Ryan gets that much next season - good job backing it up with the analytics.
Golyshev should be in the AHL to start the season - he might be a diamond in the rough, but he can also flame out like Petrov.
Why would the team need to add a pick to trade Ross? That doesn't make any sense. I am a Ross fan and teams still need enforcers and ones that can keep up with the game.
I like Salo a lot - just a bit risky to give him a starting spot right from camp.

Puck moving D
Blues cannot protect Dunn and have no leverage before the expansion draft. Trading Bolduc is not a good move.
If you want a strong puck-moving d man - I know Trotz and Lou liked Alex Goligoski in the past. He is certainly getting on in years, but he would cost only money - certainly south of 3m and only for a year before Salo and Bolduc are ready to take over. Plus, you get to keep Bellows, the 2nd, and Bolduc.
Confused as to why you are buying out Komarov (1.66 cap hit) instead of burying him; the buyout only saves the team 200 K and then tacks on another .660K next season to the cap. This is poor cap mgmt. Might make more sense to just bury him and find a cheaper alternative at the 4C than overpaying for Derek Ryan @ 1.75! ... Ryan is lucky he'll get a 1m on the open market - he's in Nate Thompson and Trevor Lewis territory. Ryan was brutal this year for Calgary.
Salo and Golyshev being handed starting roles is also something I strongly disagree with - might make more sense to have them in the AHL since they are waiver exempt to at least get used to the North American style and rink and they provide depth and cover when injury happens.
Don't think the team needs to attach Aho for Seattle to take Leddy. I think they take him - if they don't so be it.
And did you waive Ross the Boss? Oof that's a bad move, especially when he'd get claimed by the Rangers and then haunts our dreams. You never waive your goon - the lessons of Karl Racki!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>IconicHawk</b></div><div>This is a downgrade</div></div>
Yeah - the team is losing Leddy to expansion and in this scenario choosing to replace him with Chara.
Chara at 45 and @ league minimum has more value than Merrill or Koekkek or whoever else you get at the league minimum.
The roster is a look at keeping Palmieri and replacing Leddy with someone cheap.

None of these guys are significantly better than Greene.
Koekkek and Hutton suck, you know that right?
Merrill is NOT significantly better - I wouldn't even characterize him as a better D-man than Greene.
You can make a case for Kulikov, but he'll get over a million.
And Forbert is getting paid this offseason - No way he goes for under a million.
I don't have an infatuation with 40-year-old Dmen -
Greene has been a warrior this year and has done a lot for Dobson's development.
Having watched a lot of islander hockey this year - I am definitely OK with Greene anchoring the bottom pair and mentoring someone like Bolduc.
These rosters are designed to take a deeper look into different offseason scenarios.
The scenario I was laying out was - how do we retain Palmieri and stay under the cap, but overcome the loss of Leddy.
Chara is someone who is better than any of the guys you suggested and would sign at a league minimum - albeit with bonuses that would be tacked onto the following season.

Greene 2.75 = 2 m bonuses for 2021 + .750 k league min.
"There are like 5 defenseman in free agency that the isles can sign for less than 1 mill that are significantly better than Greene."
Who are they? I'd like to know who are the significant upgrades at league minimum.

There is also difficulty in gauging longer-term deals for players like Beauvillier and Sorokin.
Have we seen enough of Sorokin to give him a Demko size contract? Or does he get something around what Elvis got? or Blackwood?
What is Beau's AAV in a longer-term deal? 4 and change, like Arvidsson? 5m? 6m? higher than that?

WHOA - slow your roll with Norris candidate - nice player and always liked Toews, but let's not go crazy - he isn't even the 2nd best D man on that team.
And they received TWO 2nd rounders for Toews, not 3rd round picks.
I agree that you want to lock up your younger players, but the flat cap landscape has generated more interest in bridge deals (and shorter deals) - Point, Tkachuk, Barzal, Laine, and this summer Pettersson, Makar, and Hughes will all take bridge deals. Beauvillier and the Isles is not an isolated situation.
There is more to the Toews situation too- Devon filing for arbitration made the situation more difficult and at that point, the priority was resigning Barzal and Pulock.

Toffoli is a way closer comparable than Gallagher.
You make a good argument about committing long term cap space - even at 4 years for Palmieri - I don't think Beau signs long term - it benefits him to take a bridge. The same goes for Sorokin - Blackwood bridge deal is a good comparison as to a Demko-type contract.
Pelech will get his long term deal

Isles 2021 with Ladd
This is not preferable - this is a scenario that is if Lou can't get Ladd to LTIR.
Palmieri @ 3.5 is overpayment? Zajac @ 1.25 is an overpayment?
Greene @ 2.75 is because he earned 2 million bonuses this year and due to LTIR - bonuses get tacked on the following year.
Beau goes to arbitration there will be a 1 year and 2-year award. I think 4 m will be the award on either case.
Isles going 1 year is beneficial since they can sign Beau to a longer-term deal in January. It also avoids having Barzal and Beau hit UFA at the same time.
They walked Nelson and Bailey to their UFA year and than worked out.
Of course, he should not be named, was also walked to UFA and that didn't work out.

IMO, Gallagher is not a good comparable. Gallagher just had back - to - back 30+ goal seasons and is a top-line player who plays in all situations.
Toffoli is a better comparison, who signed a 4- 4.25 AAV. Palmieri is also a year older than Toffoli was.
