At this point last year, the sharks would have needed to include a first to move EK, now they're getting one. They're not going to get a much better offer, especially this year, from anyone else.

Poulin, who I love, has meh value right now through his issues, and only has 1 yr left
Blomqvist has played just 2 games in the AHL over 2 seasons, and he let in 4 goals in his single 22-23 game
Ty Smith barely got a look last yr in PIT and isn;t good defensively, (even PIT only gave him a 1 yr deal)
Cap dump Zaitsev
A probable mid to (hopefully for PIT fans) late round 1st and a 2nd TWO drafts away.
Its alot of somewhat broken toys and a couple of good, not great picks for EK and 4 million retained for FOUR years.</div></div>
It might not be "enough" for EK, but it's the best SJ is going to get. Honestly, I would not buy out Granlund and throw him into the trade or not give up as much. Pittsburgh is the only one offering anything for EK and therefore don't have to offer too much. SJ does not want to hold EK any longer, so they have no leverage. As good as he was last year, he's a cap dump to them.

According to CapFriendly on twitter, I am wrong. They still get the additional buyout period whether a case is settled in arbitration or before. Which is weird... My understanding was that the purpose of the extra buyout window was to compensate for overages caused by arbitration rulings. Seems like an easy loophole for teams to take advantage of.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Capitalfail67</b></div><div>So Sharks take / have $10 million in useless cap space.... then they move a Norris 100p caliber player while there at it?
Ek 7.5m is worth at least a 1st + high end prospect. Poulin / Smith are far from high end... mid level at best?
EK 7.5m should look like 1st + Pickering.
dumping Petry should cost a 1st minimum ? Bailey 5mx1yr cost a 2nd. (Petry higher cap hit w more term) Maybe a 2nd + those prospects gets it done but id personally rather just have the 1st
imo Penguins need to add a little more</div></div>
For one, with the NMC Karlsson isn't going to the highest bidder. Or even a high bidder. Two, only Carolina and Pittsburgh are reported as being interested. Three, I doubt a deal gets done at all as it sounds like Grier will only retain about $3m/yr. and no team can fit that. Four, Petry is not a cap dump. That's completely ignorant. Granlund and Carter would be cap dumps. Petry is still a capable 2RD if a bit overpaid.

Karlsson Idea based on Rob Rossi insider - SJS
I'd be all over this for the Sharks but I can't imagine sharks get that big of a return on Couture unless there's retention. He'd be an amazing current 1C/future 2C for CBJ at say a 6 mil cap hit but 8 is steep.
And in that scenario all three retention slots would be used for SJ for two more years which is less than ideal

I just don't see SJ ever retaining close to 50% because that's an incredibly tough sell to an owner, and Grier has said such
the 14OA and Poulin are good offers though, but SJ would want to do this same deal around 3M retained

Here is the thing as an Oilers fan who likes Puljujarvi I’m not a fan of the trade however I get it. Puljujarvi can’t live up to expectations here in Edmonton and a large part of the fan base lets him Know it. Kapanen would be a 3rd line filler and we need a stay at home right shot defenceman so I can see it working

These comments are exactly why I don’t use this site anymore besides the GM game. But I needed a good laugh and I definitely came to the right place.
This contract is absolutely brilliant. Do you really think for a second that Kris Letang given his injury history will play out the entirety of the contract? Absolutely not. He will be sent on LTIR like the Weber / hosss deals towards the end. The contract kept the AAV ridiculously low for the initial years of the deal, and in the “ugly” years of the contract, he will be on LTIR.

The way I see it, the Pens only want to be competitive for 3 more years (until Crosby’s contract is up and he’s 37). So as long as this contract is good value for like 2 years (debatable, but probably), they’re fine with it. What do they care if they need to buyout or LTIR for the last 3 years - they’ll be trying to win the draft lottery by then anyway.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pharrow</b></div><div>Neither one of them was the reason this team lost.
First you had a bad penalty which was a ticky tack call to begin with in the final 3 minutes or whatever of the game. The refs should have let them play.
Second, you had a goal that went in, and they didn't allow it.
Third, they were stuck in their end most of the game on almost every line. We can go into the hows and whys of that, but a good part of it is having no real 4th line. Riikola out there playing wing looking lost and Blandisi who has no business in the NHL. So the team is basically running 3 lines. And while they aren't necessarily bad lines, they are out gunned. They need help in the forwards coming back.
Fourth Jakes turn over on the first goal was ridiculous. There is no way you can blame that goal on anyone but him. He also go the penalty in the end. Bad night for him.
While I agree JJ and Guddy shouldn't be paired together. With Dumo hurt and no real forwards available to come up from WBS what else are they going to do?
But I will say one thing. Guddy finally woke up and started doing what needs to be done. Probably because he realizes he needs to do something on the ice. His plays been ok for a 3rd pairing guy. I think your expectations are a bit too high. The same can be said about JJ.</div></div>
1) JG penalty was 100% a penalty. He basically saved a goal or a really good 2-1 opportunity. Risk >
2) that wasn’t a goal.
3) JJ isn’t nearly as bad as penguin fans say. He’s playing fine
4) jugs is more likely the odd man odd not either dmen
5) stop making excuses. Penguins are hurt and played very well. You are just embarrassing yourself

Most of PITs moves have been okay but the JJ contract is absolutely tanking us rn. No cap room at all and he’s literally one of if not the worst regular player in the league. Tanev looks like a solid middle six player so the 3.5 salary is okay. I think Guddy has been “fine” but damn that contract is expensive. Over 7 and a half million on the bottom pairing is an embarrassment. We could play Riikola/Marino/ruhwedel all for well under a million each and have a player actually worth 7 million. That would be absolutely massive for us with Geno gone.
Our hands are tied so what we’re doing is missing playoffs probably. If we can unload Guddy before the deadline and either buyout or bury JJ in the next year I can see us getting back in the playoff mix next year. Maybe then we can convince Seattle to take JJs contract (or maybe Hornys cuz that’s gunna hurt us bad by then)
This is the price of winning. Lose good players and guys get overpaid and the stars age out. Won three cups with this core though so I’d say it was worth it
