Cost controlled 3C
Pretty safe bet that AM34 isn't signing 13Mx8. The expectation is that it's a 3-5 year deal. I think after that he seeks max contract whether that be in Toronto or elsewhere.
I think the Leafs would be better off signing Bailey than paying up for Laughton.

Leafs Pull Off 3 Way Deal With Sharks And Ducks Involving Nylander
The Ducks aren't ready to add a $9.5m x 8 contract. They are a couple years away from being competitive. Doubt Nylander would want to go to the worst team in the league that's rebuilding either

I think they would balance each other really well. If you can find somebody who will play well with Nylander you're going to get a clear #1 line, a solid #2 line and probably a middling third line. Kind of the Boston model when they had Bergeron-Rat Boy- Pasta all together.
You very much can. It's certainly not ideal but they also can't afford to attach high draft picks to move him. If they have some idea on what Matthews/Nylander extensions cost it's not a huge deal. I could see them retaining a bit on Murray to move him, but with the cap going up it isn't going to cripple them. (The Leafs are actually in a great spot with the cap right now, but ssshhhh don't tell people).</div></div>

Or you move him because it won't cost much to do so. Jarry is the best FA goalie and he's an often injured inconsistent goalie that will cost way more in cap and term than Murray. And may not even be better.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JAKE6</b></div><div>the kampf signing says to me that o rielly is gone. kampf is a good third line center that needs decent players with him to produce. he got 2.4m so he will need to produce pts. i dont think he"ll be stuck in that 4th line role anymore. esp not with a faceoff expert and pk guy in glendenning that fits perfectly on the 4th line</div></div>
I would say the Kampf and Holmberg signings suggest that they expect O'Reilly to test FA, but if he's willing to sign for less (I'm guessing 4M or so, maybe less if they are willing to offer 7 years) that there's a slim chance that he's brought back. Of course, Matthews and Nylander extensions, and a top 4 D are higher on their priority list so there's going to have to be enough money left to do those things.

Outside the Box Thinking
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>newballcoach</b></div><div>I don't think Granlund is a bad player by any stretch. Toronto needs some centre depth and Pittsburgh needs options in goal. Each team trades a problem. I don't think it's a perfect scenario (Toronto might even ask Pittsburgh to add a draft pick) but it's a fun one to consider.</div></div>
A guy like Adams Henrique who has a year left would be a better option because it allows them to have cap flexibility the following year. If Matthews and Nylander sign, things are going to be tight. If not, then that's a different story but I still think Treliving will want cap to revamp the Dcore.

Brodie? He isn't going to get traded, he's been our best defensive defenceman since he arrived. Was dealing with a nagging injury. He'll be fine this season.

Hey Bill
Ryan Graves is easily getting 5M+ this summer. 3.3M is pretty laughable. If he was willing to sign for that cheap Toronto wouldn't be trading for Zadorov and would instead just sign Graves.
Flames would rather keep Zadorov, moving up from 48 to 28 probably isn't worth losing Zadorov for Minten, especially if we are trading Hanifin too and have no reasonable replacement for both (because of the aforementioned Graves offer).
Lastly if Calgary is targeting any of Florida's wingers it should Reinhart

Tanev and Brodie are very similar players, except Tanev is older and more injury prone. Yet somehow one is a cap dump while the other fetches a first + our best defensive prospect? Not even sure how you navigated yourself to this website.

run it back with a 3rd line too
You have to trade Nylander with this team, there's no money left to resign him and Matthews, and others the following season especially when half or a third of the cap rise will be taken up by the Murray buyout. Probably best to just pass on the Bertuzzi/5M forward signing and keep Brodie as a rental.

Marner Trade Rumour
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>newballcoach</b></div><div>*pretends to be shocked*</div></div>
Haha. You’re pretty close though. Leafs were using co GM of Kyle dubas and mark hunter in between Nonis and Lou. So they had people there to make decisions, and to be fair, Pridham was announced as the guy making decisions currently as well and who we will likely see make the announcements at the draft

If I remember correctly the Kessel trade was either executed without a formal GM or most of the work was done before Lou was hired, so there's precedent.</div></div>

Good moves
Anaheim isn't trading their recent 3rd overall pick for a pending ufa in Nylander. Even if Nylander had an extension in place, they would pass.
Brodie would have more value than that.
Also, Klingberg is not what the Leafs need on defence. Much rather keep Brodie.

New GM Makes their Mark
You're selling really low on Liljegren (5th pro season, unestablished in Leafs top 4, dressed for only 5 playoff games) and Voit looks good right now, but is still a highish midlevel prospect to a team that has foerster, gautheir, kaplan, brink in pipeline and another 3-4 wingers under 25 in lineup now, so Laughton might be worth BOTH of those almost, Deslauriers and a 4th seem like overpayment for PHI, when Toronto is the Buyer, so I'm think PHI gets more.
CHI already has Mrazek as backup, and doubt a drop of 20 picks is enough for Murray, who at 4.6mil is too unreliable, even as a backup
Doubt CGY parts with a 4th for Giordano, for pure sentimental reasons. Gio might get a 4th from somebody though
Not sure Jarnkrot and Robertson carry much value in that deal (Does a rebuilding club want jarnkrot at almost 34 yrs old and you're selling really low on robertson, whos value is at a low point), but cant see STL wanting any part of that.
Steeves is an okay midlevel prospect, but I'd rather have him than Nylander who has disappointed for years in more than a few teams. And would be useless as a 13th or bottom 6 guy.
Not to mention, you're over the cap with just 19 skaters, and have worsened the ability to re-sign Matthews and Nylander

Patchy and Helly
Getting what, in terms of quality, likely results in a better return than the Sens originally gave up for Debrincat, seems very unlikely.
He came to Ottawa coming off back to back huge seasons, and came with 2 years of control. Now, he's coming off a year where his production took a pretty serious dip, and where he's owed a significant amount when it comes to his QO.
I'm not saying that Ottawa won't get a solid return for him, because they absolutely should, but I can't see a top 10 pick in this years draft being moved for him.

Moving Tavares to Wing
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>newballcoach</b></div><div>I definitely think they need to look at moving Tavares to the wing (at least on a part-time basis). Dumping Jarnkrok makes very little sense to me and Domi is not worth that. He's an all offence player who gives up more than he creates, I don't want him as anything more than MAYBE a 3C. I also don't think your third line really makes sense, with a grinder/slow guy like Acciari and then Robertson and Nylander.
The Leafs need to find lines that work together, not mismatch cobbled together nonsense 100% of the time (my complaint of Sheldon Keefe, not you). Losing Hyman was a bigger loss than anyone expected and they need to find guys that can play with the stars.
I'd prefer not to give Bertuzzi 6 million (what's he really done) and would love to see more of an upgrade on defence.</div></div>
I agree with a lot of the things you said. I wasn't really trying to find the perfect line combinations, just wanted to express that we should move Tavares to the wing and try to become faster (why I chose Domi). I am actually higher on Domi than most. I think a lot of the bad things you mentioned about his game can easily be cancelled by Marner's play. I also think his speed down the middle is something this team has lacked for a while now. He excels in transition and is actually one of the best in the league at generating chances off the rush. I think if Tavares can adjust his game to something like Pavelski has, then we could form a similar line to what they have in Dallas (Robertson-Hintz-Pavelski).
An upgrade on D is definitely needed. There's a lot of things to be done, but I just wanted to show that it doesn't have to include trading Marner.
