First of all...
https://www.nhl.com/blues/news/armstrong-buchnevich-open-to-extension-talks
Secondly, value to one team is not always going to be the same value to another. There's value, and then there's the right value. Unless Army is <strong>madly </strong>in love with Sammy, this is not the right value. The Blues would be much happier with less value in the right pieces. Which you guys definitely have a lot of.

Blues get their longterm superstar
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Subbanator7667</b></div><div>I actually thought Wayne played in St Louis later than Hull. Thought Hull left for Detroit in 97 and Wayne was a Blue in 98 before the rangers.
I get the balance and I get why the Blues wouldn't do the deal but it doesn't stop the fact that Marner would instantly your teams best player and frankly I don't think even this deal gets him out of Toronto. Buch and Parayko are fine players but neither is a star or even a top line player, if Buchnevich was younger or Parayko ever hit his potential it's closer in value but as is the Leafs would only get rid of Marner for a top pairing D man or a young player that can replace him</div></div>
Dude, Marner is not better than Thomas. And Parayko is literally a 1RD who was the first Dman to lead the league in both blocks and takeaways. This deal would never be offered in the first place.
Hull was in STL two seasons past Gretzkys departure. And the Blues have had others just as good as Marner since.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Subbanator7667</b></div><div>I hate saying this because he's a Leaf but he would be the best offensive player to play for the Blues since Gretzky. I get he's considered soft in playoffs but he's also a top 3 RW in this league, while also being one of the best defensive wingers in the league.</div></div>
He's a better offensive player than Brett Hull? Since when? And the Blues don't care about "stars". They like balanced teams. They're not going to pay Marner 3-4M more than Thomas. And certainly not when the gutted defense means they won't contend for a while.
And I know he's a great player. Superstar is another animal. There are players far worse than Marner with bigger names as "stars".

Not even sure what that means. And Krug is obviously move target #1. At least he has been til now. Besides, Faulk played hurt most of the season. He's an obvious bounceback candidate.

Not saying they get nothing in return, but I see it being used as a sweetener to maybe move down actually. Only person I really want that might be available at 16 is Adam Jiricek.
Faulk and 16th overall to Toronto for their 1st makes sense to me. They will want major changes once they get bounced this round imo</div></div>
I would be shocked if Army used this 1st to offload a Dman. And if he lost his mind and did, it certainly would not be Faulk.

A Buch trade would need a return of a very good young guy that can either play in the top6 or top4 next year. I don't even see them making their pick at 16 this year.</div></div>
Do you say that last bit because you think they'll trade up or because you think they'll trade it for an NHL youngster?

The Blues are not Chicago., there's no teardown or tank. Jarventie would be of zero interest, and a picks heavy offer is not enticing unless one pick is a high 24. And as usual, he's not on the block. The offer would need to be super enticing with a piece or pieces they actually want.

Heh. Yes, the superstar Leafs fans have been bashing and trying to get rid of for years. The superstar casual fans might not have heard of, in part because he’s never been out of the second round.
To be fair, he's far closer to being a superstar than Lily is to being a Parayko replacement. Yikes.

Still absolutely not. Under no circumstances. And there's no way the Blues would pay whatever would want. Plus it's cute that Marner is a superstar somehow.
I'd do the Buffalo trade in a heartbeat, but they'd never offer that.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Chapee44</b></div><div>No I disagree that it should be assumed the player even wants to re-sign. Or that the team wants to re-sign him.
At this point that offer is as competitive as you're gonna get for him. A 2LD(upside) plus a mid-1st round prospect coming off a solid AHL year and an unprotected 1st in the upcoming draft is a haul.</div></div>
Again, nobody is assuming the Blues want to extend Buch. This has been well established. And the Blues are not courting offers. Also well established. I mean, you can throw a pile of ifs across a passage time and anything becomes possible. Right now is the situation right now.

You disagree that a player openly being offered around and a player a team has no intention of trading are different? Well, okay, but that sort of stance from a bidding team ain't gonna fetch Buch.
And exactly no one is assuming the plan is to re-sign Buch. Army has made that clear repeatedly and publicly.

Also from his end that he wants to stay with the team.
Any pending UFA is always discussable as being available because either side might see it as beneficial to get out while there's value on the table.</div></div>
Being discussable and on the block are two very different animals. And what might occur later is irrelevant today. Today, he's not available, but Army is willing to listen because it's the smart thing to do. Doesn't make him available today. If Buch stays past the draft, it's a pretty safe bet he is in STL when the season starts provided no one says magic words.

The Blues need a top 4 LD. And good to great Dman prospects. And Milano just blocks our wing prospects, who will be far better than him before too long.
So no, it is not tailored to Blues needs. And there's too many pieces. They're not looking for a stack of nickels and dimes for a top line winger they're aiming to extend.

For me, Cristall is a small winger who is nowhere near as good a skater as one would want a small winger to be. I certainly would not want him to be the main piece in a Buch trade. That would upset me.
But yeah, if we trade Buch it should be precisely for what we need. No settling for "value".

The Blues aren't accepting that. I have no idea how they'd feel about Sammy, but I'm fairly sure pushing the 1st until next year and a small winger aren't going to entice. Those items are presumably worth more to the Sabres than they would be to Army.

The Blues are gonna need you to condense whatever value you feel is in that offer down to 2-3 pieces. And they should be something the Blues would actually want in order to give up Buch. Other than the mid 1st, there's nothing to serve their needs there.
