Carey Price 50 pct Retained
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ricochetii</b></div><div>I still think Edmonton is the team that should be trading for Price. With the caveat that we see he's healthy and ready to go first.
At 50% retained, something like . The pick could even be conditional on Edmonton's playoff success.
They're currently running a 39 year old and a 33 year old. It's not like they would be getting older in the crease. Price and Smith would only come in ~$1M more than they are paying for goaltending now. That could be a hell of a duo with their workload being reduced and Skinner gaining experience behind them, which would be good for his development. Price also has the ability to backstop a team through the playoffs and win games, which is what Edmonton's focus should be.
Colorado makes less sense because they picked their guy and traded for him already. They should give him at least this season and a shot in the playoffs before deciding if they made a bad deal and should change goaltenders.</div></div>
I completely agree, though I think Edmonton needs to send more salary the other way. I could see Bourgault and a 1st (like you stated), but they'll need to send Koskinen (maybe even Turris) to make the salary's work. I wouldn't even make the pick conditional, as Price is, in reality, what they really need. However, I could also see Edmonton going for Fleury instead.

I'm not sure it's for no reason. I've watched a lot of Canadiens' games this season, and Chiarot has played very well. He eats minutes and has been one of the few bright spots. He was also outstanding for them during the last two playoffs. He isn't a top pair guy, but he is a second pair guy who is responsible and physical. If a team has Stanley Cup aspirations, then they would assume that the 1st round pick is a later pick. Giving up that late pick for Chiarot would be worth it. There are plenty of teams that need what he brings, and I can absolutely see him netting Montreal a first. Please don't hate: this is just my opinion. :)

Top 50 Players In The NHL
The problem, that I think we can all agree on, is that rankings in general have two issues:
1.) There is always going to be bias for or against a player. Always. No matter how much someone says otherwise. We have Sharks fans arguing for Sharks players and Leafs fans arguing for Leafs players. (That's not a shot at either fan base; it's just an observation).
2.) Rankings are always in flux because the play of each player is always in flux. It is almost as if we should just say, "McDavid is number 1. After that, it's your own personal opinion."

Chychrun is amazing: a talent to build around, not trade.
That said, two (most likely) pretty high picks (maybe even top 10), Romanov/Guhle, Poehling, and a potential starting netminder - all making league minimum - and a solid bottom 6 forward in Armia isn't <em>terrible</em>. I don't think the Coyotes would ever do it, but it isn't terrible. I mean, the Canadiens are pretty awful right now: that 2023 1st could potentially be top 2. Could you imagine if the Coyotes got BOTH Bedard AND Michkov in the 23 draft???? Their offense could potentially be set for the next 15 years.

Some trades
With exception of the Kravtsov trade (which the Canadiens would probably have to add a lot more, in my opinion), I think the trades play. Those are obvious names that they would be trading, and I think they're fair. I like the Myers deal for both sides. Paquette <em>could</em> potentially net a seventh, and I think a first for Chiarot is fair.
Regarding Kravtsov: I would think that it would take more, right? Smith has been a pretty disappointing prospect and probably won't be signed. Perreault and Kulak may net around a 5th round pick a piece (give or take a round), so you're essentially trading Kravtsov for a 3rd. I don't think they do it.
I could absolutely see the Rangers asking for Poehling or Ylönen or Mysak in a trade, a long with a 2nd or 3rd. Whether the Canadiens accept is anyone's guess.
Again, these are just my opinions: Please don't hate! :)

I couldn't agree more. Kane is about as radioactive as you can get. I'm more surprised that the Penguins are actually giving up anything at all to get him. $7 million per against the cap? For him? That's just WAY too much. The Sharks would have to give a massive sweetener to get someone to take him AND retain half of Kane's cap hit in the process AND take on a bad contract in return. This is as no-win of a situation as you can get. Sorry, Sharks' fans. I seriously feel for you: you didn't ask for this. :(

The only knock you can have on KK is that he doesn't kill penalties, but he's learning to. He's been excellent in Carolina, and suggesting he hasn't on the basis he gets 7 minutes a night when he doesn't kill penalties on the most penalized team in the NHL (and rightly so, this isn't me complaining about calls against the Canes, Carolina commit a lot of penalties) it's a lazy take.</div></div>
Go back and read my post. I NEVER once said he was playing poorly. What I <em>was</em> and <em>still am</em> saying is that, for a $6 million dollar cap hit, they could do better. At no point was I disparaging Kotkaniemi. I don't think it was lazy, but if you think so, then fine: think whatever you want. I am not going to loose sleep over it.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>Since moving to C, KK is producing at a 0.75 PPG rate, or a 60+ point rate. That's production, my friend</div></div>
GREAT! If he's producing that much, let's see him more than 7 minutes, right? I mean, why aren't they playing him more? 0.75 is production, so why only play him 7 minutes? What's he doing wrong?
I'm reading his stats as we speak. He's got a CF% of 58.6, which is great. Now, the percentage of time that he starts in the offensive zone is 67.4%. I have no issue with that: they're sheltering him, and that's great. Long term, I am not 100% sure that will help him to become a great 2-way center. It could! Nobody can be certain. If I were running the Hurricanes, I personally would not have signed him because I personally would see this season (and long-term) as a "go-for-it" season, and $6million could be used in any number of ways to improve their team.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>evelutions2</b></div><div>It just gives the canes an opportunity to give him an even lower cap hit on his next contract. Which in turn makes it so that the canes can spend more on other players, such as Necas and Trocheck.</div></div>
Look, the Hurricanes are a great team. I have nothing against them or Kotkaniemi. I guess, if you are a Hurricanes fan, you have to ask yourself if Kotkaniemi, for this season, at $6 million, puts you in a better position to win a Cup then say someone else who produces at a $6 million dollar clip.
To put this into context, here is a short list of players who are making less than Kotkaniemi: Larkin, Dumba, Brodin, Nelson, Meier, Ehlers, Guentzel, Forsberg, Markstrom, Huberdeau, Barkov, Oshie, Shesterkin, Hertl, Muzzin, Nurse, Parayko, etc. A few of those players - Hertl, Meier, Forsberg - are rumored to be on the trade market as we speak. The Hurricanes could have used that first round pick (and the third) that they gave to the Canadiens to acquire KK as a package to receive one of those three. They could have spent <em>less</em> , and receive Kessel, who has a lot of playoff experience.
I don't want to get into this. There are always two sides, and I respect that. If you think he helps the Canes more than (insert player making less here), then great. Again, they're a contender, and I am sure that his cap hit won't hurt them during the deadline.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>evelutions2</b></div><div>You should probably actually look at KK stats before you make such an ignorant statement. While he is playing on the 4th line right now, he has been one of our best players in the last few games. The canes would not redo this, as they took out a part of a possible contending threat in MTL. But more importantly, KK is being primed to take over 2C depending on how Trocheck’s year goes. This is just a conditioning year for KK, and him not producing just falls into the Canes plan. They will resign him long term at a cheaper cap hit with the bet he will start to pick up the scoring pace next year.</div></div>
So, just to summarize your statement: Kotkaniemi not producing falls under the Canes plans??? Is that right??? $6 million under a cap during a year they are contending, and him not producing falls under their plan???? Really??? Like.....<em>really</em>????

I can't see Kotkaniemi at $5.5 per for 5 years.
I don't have a horse in this race, but I honestly think that, if given the opportunity to do it all over again, both the Hurricanes and Kotkaniemi wouldn't have signed that offer sheet. The Hurricanes are now saddled with a $6 million dollar player that plays a shade over 7 minutes a night on the fourth line and hardly ever contributes offensively. I am sure that, as the season progresses and the playoffs approach, the would have wished they had an extra $6 million under the cap to allocate towards a better asset. Kotkaniemi, who was mad at how little playing time he received during his time in Montreal, is now getting 7 minutes a night on the 4th line instead of receiving second-line minutes in Montreal. Now, that can't be good for his development. Yes, he cashed in. But at what cost?

Hypothetical Arizona moves to Quebec
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Gmonwy</b></div><div>What I was thinking is just switching Quebec and Detroit. So Detroit in Centeal Quebec in the Atlantic</div></div>
I like it, however it's important to take time zones into consideration. Let's take the case of Detroit, which is a city in the Eastern Time Zone but who was placed in the Central Division in the Western Conference. For years, Detroit had to play away games in the Pacific, which basically forced their audience to stay up late to watch games: this, obviously, affected their TV viewership and, from that, how much money they could receive from their TV rights. Detroit faught hard for a long time to come to the Eastern Conference: asking them to give that up would be a difficult sell. Anything that affects the owners pockets will be met with stiff resistence. :)

That's a good thought, though they do have so many left-shot defensive prospects, most of which project to be solid/good/great NHL players in the near future. I assume they would ask for (but may not get) a right-side defensive prospect or another lower pick/prospect.
If I were them, I would ask for Holloway. I could see a scenario in which the Oilers would counter with Lavoie, and they will meet in the middle and receive Bourgault. That's just me, though. :)

I think if the Oilers' deem that Price is ready to go and back in his form, then it would be tough to aquire a goaltender of his caliber at $5.25 per. The term is long, but if you're getting playoff Price <em>in the playoffs</em>, it's a great dea. Koskinen is the cap dump, and they may need to throw in another dump as well, but a (late) first and Bourgault would probably be the going rate for him if they eat half his salary.

I don't think the Canadiens and Aves have similar injuries (the Canadiens top players have been ravaged and the Aves have far greater depth: they are, after all, one of the top 3-5 teams in the NHL). That said, I think this team would obviously be better with more consistent coaching. Still, not a playoff team. And probably still in the bottom 5 of the Eastern Conference.
If those remarks are taken as disparaging to the Avalanche, that's not my intention. I think they're absolutely one of the top teams in the NHL, full stop, and were my preseason pick for the Cup. :)

If that is the direction that the Canadiens (and Price) want to go, and Price waives his NTC to go to Edmonton, then the Canadiens would probably do it. But I don't know about Edmonton. Taking on Keith's contract and having the Canadiens retain on Price's contract is a good start. I think that the public perception of Price is sometimes different than that of NHL management: he will be a wanted commodity (especially if they retain). But whether or not they could get a first, Holloway and Yamamoto for him is another question entirely. I would assume Keith, a first and Holloway would get it done. Totally my opinion, so please don't hate. :)

Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think Jarry will be allowed to be on the team, as he was not one of the 6 goaltenders that Hockey Canada had to submit as possiblities to the the IIHF. They would need to pick from Hart, Binnington, Fleury, Blackwood, Kuempher and Price. With Armstrong admitting the fact that, if Price were available and willing, he would be the starter, this team is created, at least I assume, with the opposite scenario in mind. :) Either way totally works for me! :)

It's interesting. Lehkonen was outstanding during last year's run to the finals: while he is labeled as a bottom 6 guy, he is exactly what every team needs come playoff time. For precisely that reason (and that he's only 26 and an RFA under team control), it'll be tough for the Canadiens to move him. However, this might actually entice them to do it. :)

I could see them wanting to have a few home-grown players on the team, which is important in Quebec (I'm not going to get into whether that is the right or wrong approach). Gaudreau seems to be the only Quebecer. :)
