It was specifically when you claimed the reason he wasn't going to sign was "over mishandling him," that I was disputing. His side has not come out and actually claimed that. And yes of course he kept it quiet. You think he wanted to go back to college for 2 more years? No way.

He told the org he wasn't going to sign over mishandling him, giving them time to shop him for a trade to get a high talent RHD which was missing in the orga depth chart, and what will still be a pick in the 40s most likely. It could have ended much worse for Philly.</div></div>
This is just made up. Cutter nor his reps came out and said anything as to the reason why he no longer wanted to be a Flyer. Briere was the only one that spoke publicly about it and said he had a contract ready for him. Until the other sides claims something different we're left assuming based off 1 sides comments.

Then maybe you'll get it.</div></div>
I just can't for the life of me understand why TV networks and advertisers would pay billions of dollars to show sports games. Like can you explain why a Superbowl commercial costs so much more than a local cable commercial slot? It can't be because of the amount of people engaged in that particular event, so what could it be?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Obtenebris</b></div><div>I feel like you guys chose to see it one sided.
Per Friedman, Philly refused to sign him at the end of last season, prefering to sign him in the summer to avoid bonus overage, and not stated by Philly but one could assume, avoid the burning of a year of ELC. That way of handling a top prospect is insane. Obviously, Gauthier is a proud young man, maybe too much for his own good, but that handling by Briere is most likely the reason you lost him.
After this, he skipped camp, while he did attempt development camp in 2022, and refused to talk with the organisation. Briere is the one to blame in this.</div></div>
Interesting information you have there because the only side that came out and actually made any statements was Briere and he said he had a contract ready for Cutter and the bonus rumor was just that a rumor. There was a period of adjustment when Briere was still officially being named the actual GM, but the Gauthier camp has said nothing publicly stating that not being offered a contract was the reason. If they were claiming that then I'd agree with you but Briere has publicly refuted it.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LuckyMoneyPuck</b></div><div>they have a draft because the 32 teams need organization for how talent comes into the league....not for the fans.
Even when the fan base hasn't been there, and the league was damn near a beer league, they still had a draft.
So no everything isn't done for the fans. But they sure got you in marketing to get you to think that.
Fact is they careless about the fans and more about TV deals and advertisement money than they ever will the fans. It's why they bend over backwards to appease those crowds in ways they will never for the fan base.
Let me tell you a little something I learned from growing up in Cleveland watching the browns move out of town..... F the over attachment to a team. They don't give a $#!t about the fans. You just haven't figured it out yet. Money is way more important than the fans. They aren't in this business for fans, they are in it to get paid.
So don't blame the kid for doing what he thinks is in HIS best interest. Believe me, every time an NHL team leaves a city, they don't give a crap about the fan base. Go ask AZ fans.</div></div>
Yes 32 teams need organization so they can display the product in front of their FANS. The better the team is the more support they inevitably get from FANS. This marketing you're speaking of, is it towards the fans? Interesting. TV deals and adverts? Who watches those? Hmm, is it maybe the fans? Did you know the NHL is a gate revenue driven league? Meaning if people didn't actually show up to the games the league would be in serious trouble. Again very reliant on fans. And yes of course money is more important to them, it is a business after all. But who brings them the money? Maybe, fans?
You know, you gave me a good idea though. I'm gonna video my next beer league game, post it to Youtube and gather all that juicy ad revenue. Eventually probably sign a TV deal and really start rolling it in..

Good for Cutter for not choosing PHL if that's the fan base</div></div>
Everything in the NHL, from top to bottom, is for the fans. Without fan support there would be no money, no teams, no league. Not sure why you think we shouldn't care what happens with our favorite teams? It seems you care a whole lot about teams that aren't even your favorite, as you seem to comment on about everything lol.. But yeah, take another jab at Philly since I'm clearly the one that needs to not take this stuff so seriously.

Yeah I guess you're right man, it's just a game. I mean, why are we talking about any of this like it matters at all? Why do you have 1400 posts on a NHL contract website? Why do we even have an NHL draft in the first place? We should just let these teenagers decide where they want to become millionaires playing a children's game that we unabashedly throws hundreds if not thousands of dollars towards year in and year out. But just quit being bitter because I have no skin in the game lol right because fans don't mean anything in sports...

Lindros and Fox pop to mind immediately.</div></div>
Man wouldn't it be something if all the high picks that take the NCAA route did this? Fantilli forces his way out of garbage Columbus. Will Smith says no thanks to San Jose's horrible team. Come to think of it it wouldn't even have to be NCAA players, it could be anyone. Bedard says nope not going to a rebuilding team, don't like the coach or GM situations or blah blah blah and you think this is good thing for the NHL? I strongly disagree....

Maybe he'll be worth it or overpaid by 1-2m!? This is not the position a team is supposed to be in 1 year into a players career. That's why it's risky, because he basically has to become elite in order to make this contract a bargain. Teams are supposed to "save" money on these deals eventually, but this one seems, like you said, to just "hopefully" be worth it down the line. There's just over 10 dmen in the entire NHL that make more money. He's being thrust into elite status with very little experience. A sophomore slump, which happens quite frequently, could really make this deal look bad in the short term. But I do still like Jake's long term outlook.

Wondering how exactly this happened? I understand this was the trade rumored before the NHL shot it down and all that. But what I'm wondering is why Carolina seems ok giving this guy up for essentially nothing? I've seen a few people saying he wasn't interested in signing in Carolina which seems at least a little strange to me. Is it possibly the other way around? And he wants to sign right now but Carolina is not interested? I guess we'll see if Briere signs him?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KennyBoi</b></div><div>Wait a sec, so the only thing of value SJS got from PIT is a top10 protected 1st for Karlsson? Feel like he could've gotten more despite Karlsson's huge contract.</div></div>
This idea that he was going to bring in a boat load of a return was never a real possibility in my opinion. What there's been 2 teams interested? Pittsburgh and Carolina. Making the money work was obviously the most crucial part of the trade with the flattened cap and most teams with no wiggle room. I Think Grier did pretty well to get a first for him as I didn't think a team would give one up UNLESS they were taking back a bad contract and retaining. I mean the best dmen in the league make like 2-3 million less than him lol he was never bringing back much with that contract and his age.

True they will need a few more cheap forwards but this gives them some extra trade capital to potentially acquire someone like Konecny or maybe even Debrincat. They'll have close to 15.6m to spend with only 1 hole in the top 6. Maybe they don't land a big fish but I'd actually be surprised if they keep their first rounders this year. They should be all in trying to win during the MacKinnon era.
