Enough of this nonsense
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>UpsideDownQue</b></div><div>It doesnt make sense for a contending team to trade a guy like Girard for futures</div></div>
I think it depends on what happens the rest of this season. This is a 22-23 offseason deals. So it would depend on how much of the future the avs gave up at the TDL for the run.

Giroux prefers Colorado
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Pensfan89</b></div><div>Everyone saying this is too much for Giroux or possibly just perfect. And I’m over here thinking Giroux could get a better return</div></div>
The reason why it’s a fair deal is Drew Helleson is Colorado’s top RHD prospect who is probably going to be ready for the league in a year or two. Kaut is a fringe NHL Right Wing who is a former first round pick. Compher is a plug and play C/RW middle six with term. Finally, a first round pick. All for a UFA at the end of the season.

Deadline push
This seems really fair for Giroux. Philly gets a first, a middle 6 guy that is on a good contract for a couple more years, and a defensive prospect who his ceiling is a Top Pair defenseman in the league but the Avs don’t have room for him. But, I could also see Kaut, Bowers, and almost any other prospect other than Barron and maybe Olauson.

Gaudreau - Description
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Mergus80</b></div><div>Which is why I say “Twist my arm.” If Sakic we’re dead set on Gaudreau and it had to be one or the other, I would move Byram over Newhook in this instance.
There are a few factors at play. The value of the pieces going back and forth, Gaudreau’s fit with Colorado, and the Avs’s window to win.
Gaudreau by himself may be worth one of those two prospects but the reality that the Avs probably can’t/won’t resign him skews the value in Calgary’s favor - just like you said.
I would argue that his fit within Colorado’s window to win could justify the trade. The next 2-3 season’s will the their best chance, while MacKinnon and Kadri are on their current deals. Winning is the top priority. If you win a Stanley Cup with Gaudreau and without Byram or Newhook, in my opinion the trade is worth it.
However, Gaudreau is not coming in as their best forward, and may not even be their 2nd or 3rd best forward. His production would likely drop just based on opportunity. As good as he as and as good as he could be for the Avalanche, I don’t think a top prospect is worth a 3rd or 4th best forward. They can find a lesser player who would perform at a similar level for less cost.
So overall, the fit with their roster and their window to win makes sense, but the value isn’t worth it for only 2 years if it costs a top prospect. I wouldn’t be opposed to a Timmins+Bowers type of return, but I think the Flames would have better offers from other teams, like <a href="/users/Tkachuckyyy" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@Tkachuckyyy</a> said.</div></div>
Is there a possibility of sending Calgary Zadorov, this years 1st and a prospect like Bowers or Beaucage?

what do Wings and Leafs fans think to make this work
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>reelkena</b></div><div>I guess they do this for next year?
Reilly -
Muzzin - Liljegren
Sandin - Holl
Marincin, Rosen as alts
Dermott is a redundant LD so they might as well move his RFA
The deal is still terrible because the Wings player is not an upgrade over any LD that would be being moved across. Toronto needs to make a bigger swing at their RD hole. Muzzin is not staying on the right if they can avoid it.</div></div>
So you are saying that Sandin, Marincin, Liljegren, and Rosen are all better options for the Leaf's than Nemeth? If that is the case why was Cody Ceci playing so many minutes and not benched for those four? especially when Muzzin was moved into that RHD spot or in the playoffs. I think that honestly the Leaf's do need a RHD to replace Barrie but adding Nemeth as a solid second or third pair could be helpful with their defensive inefficiencies. Nemeth is not the only, or the biggest move that the Leaf's need to make on the defensive end but this is a move that can help solidify the back end without breaking the bank.

Promoting prospects and restocking the prospect pool
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Richard88</b></div><div>Compher's value doesn't go down just because Buffalo has less picks.
If Pilut is a 7D in Buffalo then he has very little value in a trade as we can simply sign a comparable 7D in free agency.</div></div>
I didn't say that his value goes down. I am saying that similar to the Ottawa trade when in 2018 they had the 4th overall pick they wanted to keep it and roll the dice with the 2019 1st rounder. Same here. The 38th Overall in 2020 but want a 5th or 6th back. The other option is just the 2nd round pick from 2021 but are rolling the dice as to the placement of the pick with nothing coming back from the Avs. The only other option would be to package a group of picks together that are later down the road. Such as a 2020 4th + 2021 6th + 2022 3rd. I wasn't undermining Compher's value but rather pointing out the issue that Buffalo would have with building a package that they could keep their higher round picks.

Promoting prospects and restocking the prospect pool
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Richard88</b></div><div>Do you really think Compher is only worth a 3rd and a depth Dman who couldn't even win a spot on Buffalo's blueline?
Compher is a fast young middle 6 forward who plays on the PK and PP; can play C or RW; wins faceoffs; has scored at 39.2 point pace since the 2018 playoffs; scores clutch goals; and is signed at a reasonable contract for 3 years. You're going to have to do better than a 3rd + Pilut if you want a player like him.</div></div>
No I do think that. I think that the Sabers are going to not want to give up their 2nd round this year because it is almost a first rounder. They have no 3rd rounders for the next two years. So I could see them wanting to take Compher for a next year's 2nd and rolling the dice on their position or giving the 38th overall and taking a 5th or 6th. I also think that Pilut would be fine to add as a 7D or minor depth if we are moving out 3 defensemen.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RoyalBlueSabres</b></div><div>Then find someone else to beat it. Cause you ain't getting 38oa for comphers dusty ass</div></div>
Add a mid to late round pick from Colorado if that gets it done then. The issue is that the Sabers don't have a third round pick this year so I think it would have to be either the 2nd this year and add a pick from the Avalanche or it has to be a 2021 or later pick. What are your thoughts on that?

19-20 take 2
Lee doesn't leave the Islanders. They also got to the second round and he was the captain of that team he doesn't want to leave and New York will have to open the Vault this time around with the Tavares fiasco still right in front of them.

max possible cap avs 19-20
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>coga16</b></div><div>whats a Varone, and why is he signed on this team? Yikes</div></div>
Varone is a good depth piece in my eyes and had fantastic seasons in the minors the last couple years, he didn't have a fantastic year last year in the NHL but that was my idea for a chance on a depth piece and he would be interchangeable with Kamanev or Agozzino. This gap could also be supplemented with our 4th overall pick, most likely a Center of some sort.
