Very average at everything aside from skating for zone exits. Not really physical. Not overly hard on opposing forwards at all times. Have the certain situations where he is and you’ll look and ask where did that come from. He got thrown into brutal usage this year as we didn’t have another answer for someone to fit in the role with Scandella hurt and Mikkola moving pucks like they’re a half second away from exploding.
Leddy is a #4. Statistically he played fairly decent last season especially given the circumstances. But he’ll usually leave you wanting more

Would rather keep Stankoven. Moving him for a guy with one year left is terrible asset management, and financially things are very tight, meaning re-signing Nylander is going to be tough.
While I like Nylander, imo the cons just outweigh the pros here.

No, believe it or not, we're not trading seven years of Troy Terry for two years of Mitch Marner, so you can stop right there, and we don't even have to start talking about the idiotic notion of trading 8 or more years of Adam Fantilli for two years of Mitch Marner.

In what universe would St. Louis move either Krug or Vrana for that package, let alone both</div></div>
I just figured for the Blues trade because they’re dumping Krug. Krug has twice the term and a larger cap hit than Granlund has. But how much they value Vrana is a fair point.

Easy. They match. Unless they are getting a 1st and 3rd, they match.

Do you think you can keep both Swayman and Ullmark? Roslovic at $2M cap can help you now then the other assets are decent enough for a goalie acquisition.</div></div>
Roslovic is a headache. The rest is a pile of meh.
I have no desire to keep both but it’s certainly possible if Sway takes a 1 year bridge at 2.5. It’s completely up to Sway, if he wants to get paid now, one has to go, but he does not have a lot of leverage other than OS which are rarely used and there is really only 1 team that has the resources to do it in a way that Boston can’t match that would make any sense for them to do it…Carolina.
They should trade Ullmark and keep Swayman, which was always the game plan when they signed Ullmark. They gave Ullmark a full NMC until Sways contract ran out. Then reduced it to M-NTC to open up the possibility of a trade when Sway needed a new deal.
Boston has zero desire to move Sway. If you want him you would have to match or beat the 1st/3rd compensation they woukd receive from an OS they could/would not match.

I would love 3 picks in top 20 this year, I would have a conversation with Lowry/Connor possibly morrissey, keep them in the loop on the goings on, love to be the veteran nucleus going forward, but if they want to go somewhere specifically try your best to take care of them. The key is getting as much as possible for the big 3 headed for ufa status next summer, don’t want to alienate the guys that have committed, but would be nice to get quite the haul for next 3 drafts and a bunch of kids to go forward with. If scheifele was smart he would extend and get the most out of Winnipeg cap wise, helly probably wants to go home unless there’s a distinct double down on the nucleus which is tough to do. So possibly a helly deal, to get into top 20 in draft and prospects, possibly something similar for Dubois if he wants to go home also. I wonder if there a ufa coming for the cap space left and a bunch of other teams possibly light on budget in the ufa period, if not take on a few cap dump trades like you did to try a quicker rebuild. I like your build.

Leddy for Granlund, if we had no luck via trade elsewhere or in free agency on the back end, is probably the more likely of the two options that you’ve laid out. Neither are truly enticing tbh. The issue with Carter is that he won’t waive his NTC so that’s off the table.

Agreed, we could get better use out of him, but not enough to justify that cap hit. Krug without retention should be pretty much a no from the Pens entirely.

Confident enough not to give away top 10 pick in a very deep draft for a 30yr old goalie.
In the off-season Detroit signs Hill to split time with Husso while Cossa develops. The last time Yzerman took a goalie in the 1st round it really worked out well.

Yeah by no means would I be against the wings signing him if he does reach free agency. Him and cossa as the tandem could be really nice. I just think the wings really need to stay the course and develop a couple more stars, then they will be close. Either way I would like a ROR signing

Would be better just older. He actually plays defence and hasn't been under scrutiny for being a coke head. I honestly don't think he signs here unless we pay him alot of money and then the term could only be 2-3 years max.
Krug is really not needed and that contract would handcuff is in the future.
Trading Maatta just after being extended would be a dcik move. He is a good player and is cheap, shouldn't move him and replace him for the more expensive Krug.
I honestly doubt Buffalo would do that trade though to be honest. I heard they don't care for UPL but Zadina is at an all time low in terms of value.
When it comes to trading those two firsts and two seconds. We have so many holes in the organization and Yzermam has done a good job drafting but we need more good RHD and centres in the system. Maybe another good goalie prospect.

Fix the defense
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jwg314</b></div><div>I really can’t decide what scenario I like best as far as moving out 2 of Leddy/Krug/Scandella. I think Scandella is the cheapest/shortest term and most fitting as a 3LD but also the thought of Krug in a sheltered PP1 role kinda intrigues me as well. Leddy is just in the middle of both of them and doesn’t stand out anywhere. Either way I would rather none of them be in the top-4 and maybe we acquire somebody that can be there and also hope Tucker steps up there. They are all 3LD to me.</div></div>
I’m comfortable with Faulk and Leddy as a 2nd pair assuming we don’t try to heavy matchup with the Parayko pair.
I liked Tuckers game, but there is no indication to think that he is ready, or will ever be capable of handling 20 minutes a night successfully.
The issue is you can only have Leddy as a 2nd pair guy and Krug as a 3rd pair guy if you have a legitimate first pairing LD in front of them. There aren’t many that will most likely be available, and if we’re scrounging the UFA market for them, chances are we won’t like the contracts any more than what we currently have.
It’s beneficial to move Krug because of our LD depth. I’m not going to be naive enough to think that Perunovich will step right in to the PP1 or even be healthy enough to do so. But it gives us the cap to take a shot at a UFA LD that has proven to be able to play 20+ a night positively and at the very least flexibility. Tucker in my mind is a fine 3LD right now, he won’t get that chance, and he may not be ready for a full season in that role. But we have alot of depth in terms of guys that can fill in there: Rosen, Tucker, Perunovich, Malmstrom. Which is why spending the luxury on a Krug for us doesn’t make sense unless we have the rest ironed out.
I’d agree Leddy isn’t necessarily a stand out by any means with any part of his game aside from his skating. But he’s not a glaring liability in any zone either. His strength has always been transitioning the puck, which personally I felt would be great for Parayko since his weakness is making a clean exit (he’s good at exiting, but it’s mainly his skatiing that does that). It’s just not a good combo when you ask Parayko and Leddy to play heavy defensive usage when Leddy isn’t necessarily adept at puck retrievals, clearing the crease, or 1 on 1 defense. He’s pretty average at everything there.

Off Season Moves and Next Years Roster
Don’t think Provorov would be a bad target for the Blues. But trading your top prospect, your #3 prospect who is already at the NHL level and is a heavy player along with a 1st is absurd.
Could see like NYR 1st/TOR 1st + Robertsson + cap (Krug/Leddy/Scandella) being of interest. It’s a risk as Provorov hasn’t been great the past couple of seasons. But I’d venture to guess a lot of it is the same syndrome Parayko has been going through of mismatched partners/usage.
Liked the player a lot when he was younger.

I feel like PLD is a necessary add because he wants to play in MTL, but maybe let the rest play out naturally.</div></div>
I gamble on Dubois being there to be signed a year later, I don’t imagine the term or money would be overly different in a years time. Might save a million per possibly by going to get him early. But cost of 17th oa ish or 37th ish oa is kind of expensive to the nucleus of the team going forward. Also depends on the prospects going the other way with the team control and the potential they could turn into. Over waiver wire worthy or replaceable in free agency isn’t an issue.

I think the early season injuries, O'Reilly and Tarasenko being UFAs and some inconsistent goaltending is what sunk this season.
A few tweaks in the offseason and a bounce back from some guys could easily have the Blues in a playoff spot next season, the west will probably be wide open again next season.
