2022-2023 who do you trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>johnston3504</b></div><div>yeah i agree Nylander has the lowest cap and easiset to trade but what is the value?</div></div>
I'd try to get a winger in the 4 million range or less that plays with grit. Greenway (min) Woods(NJ) for example. With the extra cap space, you then trade Kerfoot and try and get another power type forward. Between the 2 guys they make 9.6 million, you can get 2 power forwards for that amount. The leafs have very good star forwards but the role players couldn't out muscle a 90 year old. So if they have a unsuccess season beside Matthews, Marner and Tavares, every other forward should be gone. Also hopefully Sandin matures and there is more money after Rielly walks

If we don't keep morgan I would love a long terme deal for Sandin, something in the ball park of what Rasmus Andersson got, 6 years 4.5-5 Millions

This is the correct take
Sandin - Brodie
Muzzin - Holl
Dermott - Liljegren

Tampa Bay Lightning signed Mikhail Sergachev (3 Years / $4,800,000 AAV)
I been saying they’re gonna make everyone scratch their heads with great moves. Great management, and scouting. Plus now the teams buying in - they’re tryna be a modern dynasty which is even crazier considering we got COVID cap.

I wouldn’t say that just yet, since they would’ve won the cup whether they had Sergachev or not. This one still depends on what either player turns into.

He mainly won it based on longevity and the fact the islanders ended up in the conference finals.
Devils have 4 million in dead cap thanks to his contracts and Toronto's entire offseason last year was getting out from under the Marleau and Zaitsev deals.

Toronto Maple Leafs signed Michael Hutchinson (2 Years / $725,000 AAV)
Shocked there are so many no's.
Dubas gets to do right by a guy who he put in a bad situation. He gets NHL guaranteed money for 2 years to play in the AHL. Hutch also meets the expansion draft requirements for goalie exposure. So if the Leafs don't re-sign Freddy or another goalie before the expansion draft, they can still protect Campbell if they want to. This costs nothing but cash, and I really don't mind when a GM does things like this to garner good will from players.

This is for Seattle exposure, Freddy and Dell wont be on the books next year and they need some goalies to expose (Scott and Woll dont qualify).
Stop looking so hard into a deal that cost pennies.

Eugene has no money. He won't be interested in signing players to offer sheets. He's only interested in hitting the cap floor. If it were legal his payroll would be $23.00.

If one of those guys get bought out I can't see them wanting to stay, and I feel the league would step in to stop teams from buying out then resigning guys cheaper if they did compliance buyouts
From the buyout FAQ on here about compliance <strong>"For one season following a compliance buyout, players were not permitted to rejoin the team which performed the buyout (this restriction does not exist for normal buyouts)."</strong>
And even if that wasn't the case would they even want to come back if the team essentially said they aren't worth the contract they signed a year after?

Saw thing on another post and it makes lots of sense. Find a team that would like to get rid of 2 bad contracts. Make them a deal to bring back an asset plus the 2nd bad contract and buy that contract out. I do think Toronto would need picks, since they are up against the cap, so any cap coming back can't be any more than what they send out (and really should be less to make the cap manageable next year). If this happens, Toronto should have the opportunity to get a high draft pick and also shed a little salary at the same time. (I.e. Johnnson to some team desperate to rid themselves of a bad contract, maybe they could get back a first round pick depending how bad the other team needs to shed salary). Kind of like last year for Toronto, only in reverse.

Bro he's coming off 12 + 29 + 33 point seasons .... the AVV is very high for a player of his caliber.
And Ottawa has been playing the s*** out of him this season to pump his trade value.
Enjoy.

Who to add with the Muzzin extention upcoming
I'm not sold with Kerfoot in the top 6. Still too much of a passenger for my taste. He's definitely not what Toronto thinks they were getting. His value is not going to be great right now so they might have him another year by default. I change my mind everyday on which of these 3 I want to lose.
If Kappy played with Nylander and Tavares he would be at RW. Nylander has expressed wanting to play more LW and I would at least toy with that lineup if I were Keefe. It would mean two zone entry experts with Tavares which would help him out since he's less suited to that role.

Severson and demelo
A few thoughts here. I don't know that adding two RHD is imperative at this point. Adding one will help solidify that side for at least this season and then you can look at making more moves if you like in the offseason. The cost to acquire Demelo should be reasonable and he has had a great year. But, he's a rental and the Leafs don't love that. Still I think he's a great target and if he gets some chemistry with Rielly he may be willing to stay.
Jersey trade is tough. Coleman is worth a lot to them and I can't imagine the Leafs need to pony up to meet that price. Severson is a solid defenceman but not the type of Dzone first guy you'd like to see paired with Rielly. There's a reason Jersey fans are often willing to get rid of him.
While flipping Barrie for picks at this point is enticing (and trust me I don't love him) you want to go into the playoffs with the strongest roster you can. As well, including Dermott in any deadline trade when you aren't 100% sure how quickly Rielly will come back is very risky. I see Dermott being moved in the offseason (if at all) for this reason.

Ducks Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>johnston3504</b></div><div>yeah i know alot have been going around i just figured fixing the d and goalie at the same time what about instead of the 2nd next season was a first would that do it?</div></div>
I'd certainly consider it, but I'm sure most Leafs fans would be against it.
I know that many are anti-Ceci, but as Dermott gets his legs back under him (Which should be soon), would it not make more sense to stand-pat? Barrie seems to be figuring it out, and after a slow start has actually started to close the gap on his career norms for point totals. I get that it's desperate times in Toronto, but if it were me, and the Leafs weren't on Miller's NTC, I'd go 2020 3rd+Hutch for Miller, and hold onto the rest. You're already going to have to re-organize the d-core in the summer anyway.
If it's the right side that you're worried about, maybe run Liljegren out there for a couple of weeks to evaluate where he's at. If he's not at the level that he needs to be, revisit then, which is probably when you can get a deal on another option.

Is Martinez even as good as Ceci though? This is just the old, mob says Ceci sucks so anyone is better type of thinking that sets me off. Ceci isn't a top pair defender, that is clear, however on the 3rd pair he's been pretty good. Certainly worth a roster spot when you take away his salary. What about Martinez? He's older, slower, and hasn't had much results in the past few seasons on account of his terrible skating. Why would he all of a sudden turn the clock back and become good?
