still no providing any argument for the defensive play. whether with mcdavid, drai, nuge, mcleod. He made his linemates better because of his defensive play. He goal share on when on the ice and he defensive metric have him as one of the best defensive forwards in the league this season

82 game pace wise, its only a 4 pts gap and JP had a better pace by 5G. In terms of defence they are on completely different planets

ok 4 points more at 82 game pace but JP 5G more at same pace and drives play much better. defensively its not even close.

oilers say no cause they need something that will provide impact during the win now window. Arttu isn't an NHL player and no matter how good that 1st ends up being it'll be at the very least 3 yrs before he sniffs the show

from all accounts Smith is going to LTIR and Keith is coming back. So not only are we not getting keith relief but also probably not moving klefbom's contract if we have smith in LTIR as well.

the thing is any offer sheet made, dallas will match. although I'd love to get ottenger. if we are going for a high quality goalie that may be realistic-ish, I'd go all-in for helly from the jets

Agreed. I hear the Oilers could use a goalie btw if you need to deal away yours haha

Post Fiala Sens
why do the oilers do that? its basically a 3rd rounder and a depth dman that can't defend. Oilers need a 4/5 Defensive LHD they don't need nor should want del zotto and a 3rd for a young cost-controlled guy whos elite defensively and was playing at 45+pts /82gp in a "bad" year.

prolly cause its impossible that trade happens. especially after seeing what Fiala netted. JT Miller alone will cost more than the Fiala package, add hog? oilers just don't have the assets to give up for that move

Possible JP Deals
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>vikhodush</b></div><div>That’s all possible but it was widely reported the other day that he asked for a trade again and oilers have soured on him. Based on the way they’ve handled it they’ve devalued him even if he still has upside. Canes surely won’t put Necas in a deal for Pulj. Most I can see them giving is a 2nd rounder - otherwise they’re better suited going after legitimate goal scoring wingers in UFA since that’s what the team actually needs. Pulj would be a cheap Nino replacement if we don’t re-sign him and would slot in on third line with Staal and Fast with more of a shutdown role - not worth giving Necas or anything valuable up for.</div></div>
Fair. But important to note, All oiler insiders outside of that clown Marc Spector has said he has NOT requested a trade. Just that if a trade were to happen, there would be no objections by either camp if it had to come to such a situation were JP had no defined role. The necas deal was more on the hopeful side. The Strome deal I feel is the one that is most realistic in terms of objective and pricetag imo.

OIlers need to be saving cap in a barrie trade. even though hoffman is a prolific scorer, the contract he has is something the oilers can't work with for multiple seasons. and also he is very injury prone + defensive liability. Oilers say no.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dallas_fan34</b></div><div>that Dallas trade is a good joke
also why would you give up a 1st round pick for strome
and keiths contract is up why sign him then trade him</div></div>
Dallas needs an OFD RHD to replace Klingberg and oilers could use some depth. Stars get a RHD PP QB that can play top 4 mins. Dmen like barrie in the NHL normally go for quite a premium but given oilers cap situation, they wont get what would normally be the price tag for such a player. RHD, that can QB a PP and is a top point-producing dman for a decade are all things NHL gms look for. Since 17-18 he actually has been better than klingberg. More points and not as bad defensively on arguably defensively weaker teams.
giving a first for strome because there will be a bidding war for him and he is about as good of a top 6 winger option that there realistically is for the oilers. probably could get a pick back in the deal but just being cautious when making that trade cause not 100% sure what the extra pieces from both sides are needed to make it work.
Keith still has 1 YL, You basically brooks orpik him. Trade him to a team for them to buy him out and then sign the guy for cheap. League allowed it already before and the rules revolving such a situation have not been changed in the CBA. Kieht wont mind as he will still be getting every penny owed to him and then some.

sorry to break it to ya but jets are more likely to be on the decline and selling than trying to squeeze the last couple of yrs of the core before they leave for free. they basically are new sharks. good pieces but in limbo between not making the playoffs and barely making it in to lose in a round or maybe 2. It'd be better for them to start getting value pieces now to build a stronger future, especially with the kind of quality drafts that are coming up after this one. Kicking the rebuild/retool can down the road doesn't help the franchise in the long term at all. Now is the time to sell while there is good value and some kind of term left on guys like helly scheifle PLD.

no cap
georgiev wants out and has put up bad numbers as a backup. no leverage for NYR in that deal. also georgiev is very low on the list of goalies the oil will be trying to acquire given that they want to contend and a georgiev/skinner tandem is almost taking a step backwards goal.

but why do that when there are quite a few options available that either won cost as much, or just cost $$ in FA? Oilers priority #1 is goaltending this offseason and I doubt they'd want to try and contend with a peterson/skinner tandem

OIlers say no. JP on an offensively unlucky year still managed to have a nearly a 50 pts 82 game pace while being elite defensively. Holland has shown before at even worse value that he won't accept anything for JP unless its a legit hockey trade. makes 0 sense for oilers to let go of JP unless they are getting something that can be in the lineup next yr, unlike the sens oilers are in win now mode and wont entertain deals that don't improve the team for the coming few seasons

Possible JP Deals
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>vikhodush</b></div><div>You guys are getting picks or prospects for him. Almost no leverage and the situation has been bungled.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>evelutions2</b></div><div>And the overvaluing PJ train just keeps going. Seriously, EDM can’t match for a second, and teams aren’t very likely to offer up a second outside of an offer sheet. Take a 3rd or a 4th and leave it at that.
As for the Canes trade, that is an easy trade for the Canes to refuse. That first round pick is the most valuable asset coming from EDM, but Canes don’t need futures right now if we trade Necas. We need a top 6 goal scoring winger, which PJ is not.</div></div>
worst case scenario he gets QO'd if there is nothing of substance offered and if they go into an arb case it'll be favorable for oilers looking at comparables. JP hasn't asked for a trade, just oiler MSM pushing for a deal. I can see JP most likely getting a return of an rfa that has one foot out the door already just like him (and something extra if its say a strome or kakko or necas). For as unlucky of a season as he has had offensively he was still hitting an 82 game pace of 18G 28A 46pts while being elite defensively. PLus several teams will definitely be bidding for him which should drive up price tag as well.
He should stay and unless there is a legit hockey trade to be made for him he's gonna stay put if Holland isn't a moron this offseason.<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Sagecoll</b></div><div>lol no. Rangers decline. Maybe Georgiev and a pick for JP.</div></div>

oilers say no if offered this. Barrie seems to have value around the league cause he's been one of the highest scoring dmen over the last decade that at PP QB and RHD. If the pens lose letang they will be hunting either barrie or klingberg along with teams like seattle, Montreal, islanders, and dallas that need some offence and a PP QB

thats a huge price for a 1a/1b goalie. Recent Goalie trade market would say this is an overpay. Goalies aren't pulling much value unless its a legit starter
