another try at the cup
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Victor24</b></div><div>Way overpay for Hellebuyck.
Bishop and Kuemper would be good comps. Neither went for more than a single good prospect or 1st round pick. So, a fair trade would be:
2024 1st + DeSmith + 4th for Hellebuyck and retention.</div></div>
I don’t think Kumper has ever won, nor been nominated for the vezina.
Bishop was nominated once but had never won a vezina trophy when he was traded.
Helle would be the best and most proven goalie traded since Ryan Miller or Patrick Roy. The bidding war for his services as the final piece for a cup win amongst the Pens, Sabres, Devils, Oilers, Kings, Sens, wings will return a 1st plus a blue chip prospect. At a minimum. We can retain and take back a goalie contract as a dump further increasing the return if needed.

There would be a bidding war for Helle amongst contenders with a need. Buffalo fans have offered up 13oa +, so with 14oa being one pick later the plus has to be more enticing and the Pens don’t have much else to offer.

Draft pick ideas
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Kyle_Davidson</b></div><div>I’m not certain how his development is going, and you have a fair point about the assets involved. I would be interested in Lambert due to his connections with other hawks prospects and was just throwing something out there. I’m not sure about the direction of the Jets, and would appreciate your thoughts so I can better Taylor a proposal for him.</div></div>
I think they try to stay competitive but start building for the next core.
Took a look at the hawks and would require Sam Rinzel+ to consider moving Lambert. In addition to Rinzel add ask for Reichel, bolts 1st this year, Dach and then Greene, probably in that order.
The focus would be rhd with size and top 4 potential and then a C with top 6 potential.
Lambert’s upside is so immense I’d rather we keep him though.

Lambert was also projected to go 3rd overall at one point and is obviously developing nicely.
Not sure why we would trade a big future piece for two lesser future pieces that are even further away?

Playoff push
I think the Jets trade would be even better for both teams if you added jokiharju to us and we added DeMelo as you have cap and he’s better than Clifton.
This offer would be right up there for sure. Especially if someone we really liked was still there at 13.

Exploring SKWPG proposal
Just awful. Let’s get younger but also add an expensive aging winger and then a gritty dman that he didn’t even dress.
I get it’s not your proposal but just because someone that clearly doesn’t know much about hockey (as he traded away David ritttich’s UFA rights) decides to post in here doesn’t make the idea valid or worth considering. Obviously you think it’s a good idea as you made a post specifically about it.

23-24 WPG Jets
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SKWPG</b></div><div>Perfetti is still an unknown and is small and squishy. The Jets need more grit.
Ullmark has shown that he needs to have someone to spare him off, especially in the playoffs.
KFC is American and is a top winger that AZ can build around. The Jets may also throw in a 1st round prospect, a top 6 D and a back up goalie to get Vejmelka and Schmaltz.
Seriously... you want to keep Chevy who does nothing and keeps the Jets in the middle forever. Okay... have fun with that. I'm tired of watching the Jets sit around the middle.</div></div>
So instead you crash them to the bottom forever?
Ulmark needs someone to switch off with… like a Swayman?
You think Schmaltz is better than kfc??? Rittich is a UFA… his rights are worth nothing. Then you add a blue chip prospect in Lucius as well??? Given the cash that schmaltz is owed the return on him will be low.
Perfetti was a top 10 pick scoring at an above 60 point pace in his rookie season…. Starting to think you may not know what you’re talking about here….
Finally yes, I would rather make the playoffs every year just like Chevy has done. Giving away big pieces of the future in Perfetti and Lucius to get worse and adding a dman that can fight when we have a better one in Bauer makes no sense.
You’re entitled to your vision but I think this is a poorly thought out AGM.

Helly trades
I was thinking about doing something similar with Helle options but I think you missed a couple teams here and I think the ask would be different.
Missed Pittsburgh and they are one of the most likely landing spots as they try to cash in on the Crosby Malkin twilight. Helle & Heinola for 14oa and Pickering.
For Buffalo I think we’d want 13oa, ostlund and then we’d take Comrie back.
Devils may make the most sense and Helle to the Devils is really easy to market. I think we’d need to add significantly to get Nemec, which I would but maybe Vanacek & Holtz could be had.
For Ottawa I’d want Ridley Greig and 2024 1st. I think they want to keep Stutzle, Norris and Pinto as their Cs so Greig could be expendable.
Kings are another option where I’d be looking to add to get Clarke, but would be a long shot like Nemec. Taking back a massive multi year cap dump in Peterson would also cost a significant piece.
Oilers could be another option with Skinner getting pulled every second game in the playoffs.

Makes no sense for any team except for Montreal as we wouldn’t move Perfetti for that entire return, nevermind PLD++.
Boston has Ulmark even after moving Swayman, so they are literally the least likely team to trade for Helle.
Arizona only trades Schmaltz to cut their salary spend. KFC makes the same amount of cash so it makes no sense.
Jets get bent over in every trade so it makes no sense to them either.
Habs run away laughing and unfortunately you’re fired as GM never to be hired again as this trade goes down in history as one of the most lopsided ever.

Maybe EP is miss reading the tea leaves about who the Jets would actually be targeting.
I do think that a higher 1st round pick will be available for PLD, even as a rental from a team like Seattle (20 oa)
Getting a right now lhd prospect makes no sense with Samberg establishing himself as a top 4 guy this year, jmo under contract for 5 more years, Dillon, Stanley, capobianco and Chisholm all needing waivers and Heinola needing a spot. If it was a prospect lhd like Hutson then maybe but the pick moving from 17 to 28+ is a huge difference.

Jets Big Retool
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Tintin</b></div><div>There are three comps with varying returns for the Jets trading Hellebuyck:
- Cory Schneider, at two years remaining of his deal at the time got the Canucks #9 overall.
- Kuemper (50% retention), rental goalie for a cup run got the Yotes a 1st rd pick and 2nd/3rd tier level prospect.
- Fleury, reigning vezina winner dealt to the Blackhawks for future considerations
This indicates that it will be very difficult to trade a world top 5 goalie for anything close to what you're suggesting.
Nemec is probably the best currently drafted prospect in the world, these guys are never traded.
As for Scheifele, I agree that he's good but Mercer is at least as good as him at this point in time, if not better already. Mercer will certainly be the better player between the two come October and, unlike Scheifele, he's under team control for the foreseeable future whereas Scheifele is a rental.
The only thing dealing Mercer for Scheifele accomplishes is getting a whole lotta older and setting 2m worth of cap space on fire.</div></div>
I think the closest thing to a comp is when Miller got traded from Buffalo as a rental.
They got a goalie back (Halak), a 1st, a 3rd the following year, Stewart (former 18 oa pick that was a 50 point winger at that point) and carrier (was a recent 2nd round pick)
So if we wanted to mirror that return it would be Vanacek, 2024 1st, 2024 3rd, Casey as the recent 2nd round pick and then Sharangovich.
Given the bidding war, I’d want to consolidate into less pieces of higher value.

You need to make this for the 23-24 season as Holl is a UFA, DeMelo isn't worth a 1st anyway.</div></div>
I expect Chevy’s ask is still Dach+. 60 point winger isn’t untouchable despite what the fans think.
Jets will take the best single asset they can as the return. Kidney, 30th overall and Dvorak gets beat easily by other teams looking at him as a rental… Colorado, Seattle, Carolina, Toronto etc. like Seattle could offer just 20oa without a cap dump and it would be a superior return.

I’m just going to say I’ve seen a couple tweets from jets hockey websites and people i follow that are this out to lunch on who these prospects are.
Mercer just potted 30 goals on an ELC.
Nemec was taken 2nd overall and plays a premium position as a rhd…. Thinking you get him nevermind him plus will be an offer they can’t refuse scenario. Helle, Ehlers both with 50% retention, DeMelo, Helle extension done in principle, taking back Vanacek as a cap dump… is probably what you’re looking at for Nemec. There will probably be Devils fans that still say no.
Personally I think Nemec and Holtz are surplus and could be moved but I understand the Devils do t want to.

JRocs Wings 3
That’s actually a super easy no for me.
1) 9th overall must be included in a kfc trade or else we just keep him.
2) lhd is our deepest position prospect wise
3) wing is our second deepest spot prospect wise
4) Bauer is in pen as our 3RHD of the future for me to handle the fisticuffs… we have nobody else that has that in their game so I wouldn’t be willing to part with him.
Reality is we probably need both 1sts this year to make a deal… up to you guys if you want him or not.

Goalie trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RV23</b></div><div>I understand the draft pick. And if I could do better than ‘25 I would. Im just under the impression the ‘24 pick can’t be moved unfortunately until the conditions of the Timo trade aren’t made (making 2024 ECF). Seamus Casey is a very legit prospect, but maybe Winnipeg values a center or wing. I don’t know your needs over there. We do have a high level talent from Russia (Arseni Gritsyuk), but I know hearing the word Russia makes some run for the hills lol.</div></div>
In my view from this retool the top priority is figuring out how to get a rhd prospect with top pair potential. Then a distant 2nd is figuring out our top 6 c position going forward. We have internal options like Perfetti, Lambert, Lucius, Zhilkin but none of them are proven.
Graeme Clarke would be another name I’d be interested in. He’s probably near nhl ready as a bottom 6 rw option?

Goalie trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GiggywithGibby</b></div><div>I'm pretty sure the depth chart after Bucky is basically nothing, so if they are going to trade him, I would imagine Vanacek, Blackwood, and a conditional second that becomes a first if you make the ECF and Bucky plays over 50% of the games in the playoffs would be something they would consider.
Gives them a younger, decent tandem to go forward with while they redraft a team.</div></div>
We actually think we have our goalie of the future in Dom. Was a 7th round pick last year but was ohl goaltender of the year this year. Need a 2 year bridge to him though so Vanacek could be park of the return as devils need to shed that salary. We could even retain 50% on Helle to make the move cap neutral this year.
25 1st isn’t really that appealing so I’d rather give that back, with the retention to upgrade the prospect from Casey. With Hamilton, Marino and Casey long term on the right side, I’d also want to talk about if we could add to get Nemec? We add Ehlers, 50% retained for 2 years to Helle 50% retained for this year and DeMelo as a bridge to Casey…. I can try to put together an actual offer I think could work but the reality is if we got a third team involved to eat 50% of Dillon’s contract…. Could be a massive trade that works out for both teams…. Would require Nemec though…. So…?

Schwartz won’t waive to come to Winnipeg. Dreg might knowing he’s be back in the NHL but I’m sure Winnipeg is on his list too.
What about Dreg with no retention as a cap dump, but who could be a 2 year bridge to Dom for us, plus Jagger Firkus for DeMelo?

Another Option for Pit
I just don’t think that gets it done for Helle. He’s got one win and has been a finalist in 3 of the last 6 years including this year for the vez. A top 5 goalie in the league on everyone’s list.
He’s a lot better then Bishop was and they’ll likely be a bidding war for his services with you, the Devils, the Sens, the Oilers, the leafs and probably the kings. LHD is our deepest position from a prospect perspective so I realize that Pickering is the best you’ve likely got, the issue is we don’t really have any interest unless we can flip him for something we do need. It’s not a bad offer, I just don’t think it will be the best one we get.

Probably need to add Holtz too. Or Mercer since you have him on the 3rd line and Holtz on the 2nd.
Maybe think about Helle for Vanacek +???
The thing is Bratt has 1 year of team control but Ehlers has two. Given how things are playing out with pld there is no guarantee he extends beyond 1 year and goes to UFA at the earliest opportunity.

A different approach - trading up and deadline rentals
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ClockReads2113</b></div><div>Scheifele is extremely overrated in my book. Just another Kuz, good offensively (though not as good as Kuz) and terrible defensively. Already 30 too. Caps don't need centers, they need top end young wingers. Maybe if you replaced him with Ehlers but even then I wouldn't. Stanley has terrible analytics plus Caps are loaded at defense, especially on the left side. Iorio looks like a lock to be top 4 and Mantha is great if used properly, they'll see what the new coach does with him.</div></div>
Don’t really need iorio, especially if that’s the deal breaker. Longer term I’d be looking at Reinbacher, salomonsson and then Bauer to handle the fisticuffs. I really like iorio so was trying to nab him as part of the deal but I’d still do it without him.
At a $3m caphit that gives you one more loaded run with ovi. If rebuilding now maybe it doesn’t make as much sense.

I agree that Connor is worth more bit all these trades I tried to take less or give more than I thought was needed but not by a crazy amount, except for the UFA contracts as overpays would be required to get them to sign here and then we could retain on one more trade at the deadline for a premium asset.
Florida pick looking in the 28-32 range so basically a second rounder. You’d get better dealing him at the deadline or to a team like Carolina or Colorado that could finish worse than top 4.
The idea for the trade back is with pld, Suzuki, Dach, Beck Habs likely go wing and if they like Benson at 5 he probably would still be there at 9 if we take a C and then Reinbacher.
