Eichel to NYR Strome to OTT and more
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldSenileGuy</b></div><div>Colin Blackwell, first line winger :s
EDIT: I'd skip Oleksiak and try to find a cheaper UFA D-man, and use some of that savings to find a UFA middle-six winger</div></div>
I mean, they could slot Kakko or Kravtsov there, but putting Blackwell there gives the top nine more versatility. It's the same thing they did with Fast. Blackwell was on the Strome-Panarin line last year and did very well in the role. There's a lot more to building a line than just putting the three best players at the position together.
EDIT: oleksiak is off to Seattle so I'll have to redo this anyways.

This feels like a steal for Ottawa. Logan Brown has definite upside, but also a lot of risk attached. I think Ottawa takes this and runs.</div></div>
I actually agree. Something tells me that the Rangers won't be getting as much as they'd want for Strome and they'll overvalue Brown. It's not really the ideal trade, but it felt like it was pretty realistic.
I could also see Formenton, Lassi, Fortunato, or Jarventie being thrown in there in some capacity.

Yeah, in an ideal world, they can keep Chytil in the Eichel trade then deal Strome.
If Chytil goes to the Sabres, no chance are the Rangers shopping Strome.

I understand not wanting to bail the Lightning out but if I'm Ron Francis, I'm not even second-guessing taking Gourde. Why pass on a top-six center? Jared McCann ain't gonna do it at 1C.

The structure of the trade is similar, the circumstances are definitely different. Doesn't mean that the Sabres wouldn't pull a move like that.

Canes hang up on that Kreider offer, plus Bean does nothing but add to the logjam if they're gonna sign Martinez too. Too many bodies on the left side and Bean has not shown he can play on the right.
Also, Hall gets more money and term than that and will probably end up staying on the B's.

I have a hard time believing that there wouldn't be a suitor for Georgiev at the draft or some time before the second buyout window. Jeff Gorton finished the season with a plan in mind and he's sticking to it, whether that's for better or worse. I do not think Georgiev is good, nor do I think he deserves a $2.75. mil a year, but I'm fairly certain that's how they evaluate him.

taking advantage of other team needs
As a Ranger fan, I certainly don't hate these deals. Now, as a realist, I don't see either the COL or STL deal going through. Newhook dropped pretty far for them and now it's really paying off. He's a point-per-game at BC and one of the top freshman in the NCAA. Sakic would have to getting quite a deal to part with him and unfortunately, the combination of two expiring contracts (no matter the player) and an aging goaltender is far from reaching Newhooks value. COL has some key contracts to sign this offseason, guys like Burakovsky, Graves, Zadorov, etc. Acquiring Strome and Kreider may just be rentals and losing two top end prospects for a few weeks of two top-six forwards just doesn't match up. In addition, Franouz has been a very good back up and Grubauer has been exceptional as of late. I doubt they part from that tandem, especially in a midseason trade.
As far as the Blues, losing Bo hurts, he leads the team in 5v5 minutes. However, they have options internally to replace him. Perunovich is close to being NHL ready and his college season will end before Playoffs. They also have Bortuzzo sitting in the ranks. Martinez, Vatanen, or Dillon would be a low-risk low-cost move, rather than acquiring a longer term contract. Wouldn't be great to have more cap committed to a D-man when they have Dunn and Pietrangelo in need of contracts this summer.
Fast trade is spot on though. 3rd round pick, maybe conditional, is his value. Wouldn't expect more or less. Not sure NSH does it though. Depends where they stand in the Central by the time the TDL comes around.

That's a lot to pay for the Blues, and bringing in Skjei doesn't bode well with keeping Pietrangelo. I'm not sure the Oilers bring Strome back, plus they could probably trade less for Pageau. Wingers are really where they need the help, even with McDavid sidelined.

Selling at the deadline 2 moves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>exo2769</b></div><div>There are different reasons to trade for either guy. Yes, Lehner is sharing the net with Crow. This is why they're 50/50. That is a different reason than what's traditional. Jimmy Howard was starting at the beginning of the season. The narrative for the CAR goaltending position has finally yielded to what 99.9% of people were saying about Mrazek 6 months ago. He stinks. Guess what. Reimer ain't anything special. He's a proven backup. I'll give you that. He's also proven he CAN'T be a starter. You need to give me that...or let's just say 2+2 = 5 from now on. You can't have 10 freakin years as a BAD starter or backup and then all of a sudden say...forget everything I've ever seen over 10 years and NOW magically he's a proven winner.</div></div>
1.) Robin Lehner would like a word with you.
2.) I'm not saying that Mrazek isn't bad, he certainly is. Crow is a small upgrade, but not enough to pay a 2nd round pick, let's all be real here. Reimer isn't a proven starter by any means, but neither is Bernier. Bernier has been a pretty mediocre starter/back up for most of his career but you hold him to a much higher standard than Reimer when they're fairly similar. Realistically, the Canes say no to dealing for a goalie at the TDL and ride Reimer for the rest of the season. Then they'll approach their goaltending problem in the offseason, whether that means trading for DeSmith, Georgiev or whomever else may be available.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>exo2769</b></div><div>That's because Well Bernier is the best by far. So yeah, I would rather have that tandem because there's at least 1 starter within the tandem. Crawford or Bernier...I could see a little debate there on who's been the best this year, but Reimer...seriously? His own team refused to play him until Mrazek finally had the wheels fall off. Just wait until he starts actually get a work load. He's not playing stellar hockey either. I 100% agree with you on Jones, but CAR actually has a defense. SJS...nope. CHI...nope. My TEAM mind you. I'm just realistic.</div></div>
It's not like Crawford or Bernier have insanely heavy workloads either. Craw has started in 27, Bernier in 29, Reimer in 22. If you're gonna speculate that Reimer won't be good with a larger workload, then you have to pass that same notion for Bernier and Craw. Over the last three years, all three have started 93 games, so workload doesn't really apply here.

JT Miller doesn't really play center anymore. He almost only ever plays LW. I'd also be pretty surprised Brady Tkachuk doesn't make the team. Probably swamp him out for Wheeler as he'd be 37 by 2022.

Dell and Bernier are better than Mrazek, that much is true. But Reimer has been better than either of those two. Martin Jones is a train wreck, Jimmy Howard has two wins all season. You said you'd rather have the tandem but only named the better of the tandems.
Mrazek/Reimer is a better tandem than Dell/Jones or Bernier/Howard. Even Crawford/Reimer has the potential to be better than DET or SJS, not that it would happen.

That Crawford trade is bonkers. Why would the Canes pay more for a unilateral move at goaltender? They could find much better in the offseason or elsewhere around the league.
