Jackets aren't signing two wingers and Jiricek is starting. Why would Texier come back just to be sent to Cleveland?

That's not "competent" in the offensive zone, that's terrible.
His 0.90 takeaways/60 is terrible (all Oilers defensemen are better) and 2.91 hits/60 is similar to Tyson Barrie, one if Edmonton's least physical players. 3.54 blocks/60 says he's okay but not great at blocking shots, especially when you consider how much the Jackets defend.
<a href="https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/news/what-team-will-overpay-to-beef-up-with-vladislav-gavrikov-at-the-trade-deadline" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/news/what-team-will-overpay-to-beef-up-with-vladislav-gavrikov-at-the-trade-deadline</a></div></div>
The guy is the only defensive defenseman we have. He starts 70% of his shifts in the D zone, of course he isn't going to put up numbers from our zone. Doesn't help that the team around him has no idea how to play this new defensive system and we can't get the puck out of our zone. Add in the injuries and rotating partners and this season is just a mess. He is a low end #1 LD or a very solid #2 LD playing in the worst setting in the NHL right now.

VAN-CBJ
None of this makes sense for the Jackets. Trading for an $8M center when we don't have the cap space another big, slow, overpaid RD and a 7th round pick is ridiculous. And then to give up the hometown first round pick at our weakest position, a cheap young RD that has really impressed and a second round pick while rebuilding is outrageous.
If there is a deal to be made for Horvat, it starts with Boqvist or Ceulemans in my opinion and definitely does not include meyers.

I agree. There is really no one else in Cleveland that I think is ready or deserves a shot at the NHL level. This gives us one reclamation project and one body to try and make it through this season. Id be very happy with this trade as a Jackets fan.

Jackets better be getting a pick to take on a winger. This is the last thing we need and definitely are not giving up a pick to do so.

Roslovic has been scratched and benched multiple times this year, he looks like a 3C at best now.
Johnson hasn't played center in years and definitely not at this level. Counting on him is a long shot right now. I would love for it to be work, but that is probably a year plus away.
Sillinger has had some growing pains this year. Hopefully he can be a solid middle 6 C for a long time, but putting more on his plate right now would be a terrible idea.
Getting a C in this draft would be huge, but not guaranteed.
Kuraly is a great 4C.
All of that to say we may have options to put in the middle, but that does not mean that any of them are good,.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>wylewubas</b></div><div>realistically boone jenner would probably be available especially with Columbus probably rebuilding for the duration of his contract he will eventually want out with a chance to get a cup, especially since hes nearing his 30's. kunin while i dont watch much of his him so cant really be a reliable source is a top 9 guy who can put contribute some offensively and is solid defensively adds some needed grit to the lineup and is also only 25. and was a relatively high pick in 2016 so the potential is still there.</div></div>
No matter what you want to believe, Boone is not available for a price that makes any sense to another team. Captain, signed to a team friendly deal at a position of weakness. All of that adds up to a price that is higher than any team would offer if Jarmo is even willing to listen.

brock boeser trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>The_Cannon</b></div><div>I am in the minority of cbj fans as we have a lot of wingers but if Jake thinks he’s gonna hang up the skates I take this deal.
He gives us that secondary scoring and we basically swap boqvist for boeser. (Nyquist = second)
I would like if it was a 23 second but with Vancouver in a similar spot as us I get the hesitation.</div></div>
I don't hate the value on this trade for him and could get on board with your logic here. We have too many RD now, so moving one out makes a ton of sense. I don't love the idea of brining in a winger, but for his skill at this price, plus a pick in return, I'd probably do it.

This trade is not remotely close to making the Jackets a better team, nor does it set us up better in the future. $10M a year to Gudbranson and Meyers would be an atrocity. Not to mention giving up our weakest position in order to fulfill a position that isn't a need.

You can get a #2 LD for a lot less than 2 top 10 picks. Like I said, I am not even evaluating the value of the trade. The fit just makes zero sense for our needs. Its a #1C or nothing.

If the Jackets are trading 2 top 10 picks it is for a #1C. Regardless of value, this trade makes zero sense for a rebuilding team.

Jackets have no incentive to take on a winger that is not on an expiring contract. It would take a first to make this happen with retention.

Any trade for boone has to start with a top 10 pick in the 2023 draft or a future #1 center. Anything outside of that doesn't make sense based on trading our captain and the pieces we currently have.

Jackets have plenty of bottom 6 guys on affordable deals. The pick is irrelevant at that point. Terrible offer.

The Gus trade is ridiculous. If Jarmo did the best he could on Bjorkstrand, there is no way he gets the same trade for Gus. Gus doesn't get traded without the Gaudreau signing either, so you can't make that trade assuming we aren't up against the cap either. We would have paid at least a third and probably a second to move Gus.

That Laine deal makes no sense. He will be traded if he won't commit longer than 2 years in Columbus.
Kuraly isn't getting scratched and bean can't play RD, and definitely won't play it over Peeke.
We need to get tougher but we have too much talent to sign all three of those guys and take spots from young guys.

Peeke is better than blankenburg. I know the Jackets are limited on RD, but I don't see them adding to the position unless boqvist is moved as part of a trade for a JT Miller or similar. I think the move is to move out Bean and bring in a Zadorov type to play 3LD.

As a Jackets fan, we are hoping to find a way to get a late first for him with retention. I think an earlier second and 4th or mid-lower prospect probably a more realistic return than what we are hoping. Wouldn't be shocked to just get the second though. I do think Jake Bean would be a great fit there. Played terrible when he was forced to a RD position., but was respectable for when he got back to his natural side. I think Gus retained + Bean for a first and third or prospect would make a lot of sense for both teams.

I don't see any world where the Jackets would sign Klingberg. Even if they spend $4M on a RD, Gus comes off the books and Laine likely signs for a little less than he's given here. Gives you about $8M to play with for a backup goalie and to extend some of the young guys.

And this doesn't include any returns for Nyquist or Foudy and to a much lesser degree Bemstrom, Carlsson and some others. Plus $7-10M in cap space depending on how some other contracts play out. Just have to hope we have the right development coaches in place to put it all together.

Building on the foundation
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AndrewPawlack</b></div><div>not sure why so many jackets fans want to part with Nyquist right now.
Just had the 3rd best year of his career on a team-down year(1 point away from 2nd best), and he wants to stay here. Not on that steep of a contract either, 5.5 for 50+ points, and expires next year. If he wants an extension as he is getting into his 30s, he could take a cheaper deal, or we can wait till the deadline and retain sell him to a desperate buyer. But he has already said he doesn't want to leave. But as we saw with Atkinson, no one is safe.</div></div>
We have too many wingers. Laine-Voracek, Bjorkstrand-Gus, Johnson-Tex, Chinny-Marchenko, Robinson-Danforth, Bemstrom-Foudy are roughly how I rank the pairings. With the exceptions of Johnson, Chinny and Marchenko, all 9 of those wingers have to be on the roster or pass through waivers. The hope is that those 3 exceptions don't need to be in Cleveland very long, so you have to clear out space. Gus is a luxury at this point that will likely not be around for the completion of the rebuild. Might as well move him and get something in return rather than let him walk. Hopefully you move him and can you that return to get a C or RD.
